mrbios Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I'm after a tool people can use rather than using active directory itself to create user accounts. What I'm after is something i can set some pre-set settings in for things such as user profile etc. Normally people are right clicking peoples accounts and saying copy, then just filling in the details, but the problem is we're using the job title, department, zip code and state fields for custom information which is pulled in by other programs (such as door proximity card codes to access copiers) and as much as i remind people they're still making mistakes in not removing this information when an account is copied and this information is copied with it. So I'm ending up with duplicate codes, and it's driving me crazy that people can't remember a simple instruction. So what I'm after is a tool that i can set preset settings in for user profile, home folder location etc. Does anyone know of any programs that could do that? If not I'll no doubt have to write my own
mrbios Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 Just found exactly what i need, Z-Hire: Z-Hire Active Directory, Exchange, Lync, Office 365 User Creation Tool This is brilliant! Creating a template for each year group, then just need AD managers to enter details on the right. Only downside is that i can't protect the settings on the left from being edited by anyone else, but it's 90% of the way there at least
NewFormz Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I use an spreadsheet to do this I downloaded from here: Wisesoft - Account Management Spreadsheet

(already got a good tool for that) Infact it appears no one read what i was actually after, and just went by the title
Norphy Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 We use AD Manager Plus by ManageEngine to do this and other things.
gtg93 Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 (edited) Flo user Manager is pretty good - free evaluation copy but you have to pay to use the full thing. You can create templates so new users are setup as required, but all other details still are left blank. Edited June 17, 2014 by gtg93

I would look at some sort of tool to Sync SIMS with AD. That's what we do. Makes life so much easier! Edited June 17, 2014 by FN-GM

Anyway, i've found Z-Hire to be the program for me in this instance, fantastic program, and free.
