Hey Guys

So for a while now we have had to resort into just choosing certain folders and files to backup on the one server (Our File Server) it seems that we can't do a Full Server Backup as the main drive is 6TB big (2x 3TB Drives in one) do you guys know of any backup software that you would recommend that will allow me to back up the entire server via schedule and supports any sized drives?

Thankyou :)

Symantec backup exec is an option

Robocopy on a scheduled task

Will that backup a 6TB volume and will it make scheduled backups to an smb share do you know?

Sorry would not know, the school has about the same volume of data bit split over a few servers, so they are backed up one at a time. Sorry.

I'm going to give FBackup a try as it supports Windows Server up to 2008 and it's free, seems to have gone well so far.... Fingers Crossed it works tonight!

How long is it going to take to do a 6TB backup?

On Windows Server Backup? A couple of hours but it does it during the night so never really effected me!

Know that feeling :(, you could try outline the costs of holding junk files that no longer needed to the SLT.

Done that, it seems they don't want to make staffs lives harder when doing day to day tasks and would rather junk files sit on the server and the staff not use them than staff accidentally deleting them and needing them a few months down the line. Yay! Haha :)

HA if they are OK buying more and more storage I guess there is no problem then. :)

ShadowProtect has a backup feature to not include free space, it is the best backup solution used by big name companys, it also has the Option to convert your VSS copyed installion into a VHD, makes moving installions from server to server, am able to restore a 1tb backup within 20 minutes.
