So running Windows 8.1 Ent, set the GP to set the pre-logon image in "Computer Config > Policies > Admin Templates > Control Panel > Personalization", but cannot see a way to set the Fit, Fill, Centre, etc. options.

Any ideas?

No the best way but I have about 6 images saved on the client computer..each with a different resolution. When we do the builds I will specify one of the images in the GPO (Most of the different builds have the same monitor sizes eg 1280x1024) manually..

If anyone has a better solution I will also be interested :)

Thank you,

If you can find/locate the standard logon image (within the Windows directory), look at its properties then just overwrite it so no GPO is required. In theory this would work best.

On 2008 R2 for example, the directory is:

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\oobe\background.bmp

which is a 1024 x 768 res.

On Windows 7 x86 it's:

C:\Windows\System32\oobe\background.bmp

which is also a 1024 x 768 res.

You could replace this on a base image, or use a GPP to apply the change once.

Sadly it doesn't appear to be that straightforward in Windows 8

It is that simple (just changing files) - in Win7 you could control it using the OEMBackground registry switch; in Win8 you just change the files in the default location. (call your new ones the same as the old ones)

I can't remember the exact file path for Win8, but if you google it you'll find loads of references to how to do this without using GPOs

We use GPP to overwrite the files in C:\Windows\System32\oobe in both 7 and 8.1. We created images for every screen res that we use, so that the image doesn't appear stretched or squished on 4:3, 5:4, 16:10 and 16:9 monitors. Edited by 3s-gtech
