Logging on multiple computers.

Does anyone know of software (pref. free!) to log onto a suite of computers with the same username/password. We often have outside groups using the rooms and it's a pain to go round each computer typing in the guest account details.

Yeh iTalc is really good- Just installed it in one of my primary school suites today. The only problem i've found so far is that if the account doesn't have a password iTalc seems to fallover on multi logins

I don't iTalc likes something else I have installed on the suite - it never installed successfully. Is it that it works on the same ports as VNC? I also have LanView which is great for starting and shutting down the computers.

 

Will try again when I have some free time with the place empty but was looking for a simplier, short-term solution - if there are any other suggestions or a way to get iTalc working alongside LanView?

Could be LanView that's conflicting with iTalc, I don't know for sure though. Suppose you wont know unless you try it on a test machine (if you've got one to spare)

Not at the moment - the computers are built into the desks and the room is in almost constant use at the moment.

 

Stupid idea those iDesks...

 

I blamed LanView when iTalc didn't work before but it's one of those things where I couldn't justify the amont of hours that it took to setup... wish I knew what was wrong because I've heard nothing but good things about it!

Ah finally, someone that agrees with me about the iDesks!! Not only are they crap- but their support is something chronic!

 

We've got 50 of them, they were installed over summer. They look really good and the room wouldn't look quite as good without the iDesks, but we've had nothing but trouble. I think the room has been at 100% work for about a week in total. But that's for another thread

We have similar issue as we hire out our ICT Suite

 

We use Netsupport School and have found it to be extremely reliable with no noticeable slowdown.

We had 18 I-Desks installed a couple of years ago - nothing but trouble until I insisted all Cassetttes were replaced with brand new ones built by Centerprise who used to build them for I-Desk before they bought the process in-house. These were installed Easter 2006 and since then no problems at all apart from a known problem with the Power supplies that I again insisted were replaced in all Cassettes.

 

I did negotiate increedibly hard on purchase price so I dont feel too bad about my decision and they were definately the right choice for that ICT Suite.

Our were installed before I started. One of the main problems is that I can't just take out one cassette for testing as there is no space or equipment in my office. Support is awful - I contacted them ages ago - problems with PSU on several + two dead cassettes and nothing...

We have iTalc running in multiple laboratories. I was wondering how you actually log on to multiple PCs using one PC? I would have liked a place where you could type one username and password in, and it sent the details to all the PCs...

 

So how do you do this then?

How doed iTalc compare to Net Support?

Similar - I couldn't get iTalc working with more than one student PC but it's apparently a lot easier to setup now. The obvious advantage is the price!

To log on a whole classroom you have two options in iTALC.

Load the classroom in classroom manager, so you have 20 screens or so for the 20 or so computers. In the top bar will be buttons like "Demo on, Text Message, etc"

One of them is "Logon" (next to "Power Down")

 

Just hit that and you'll get a dialog to enter the user, password, and domain. When you hit okay, it logs on all the visible computers.

the domain could be entered in the preferences as well, in the italc configuration under "Settings for Multi-Logon"

 

Basically the commands on the toolbar, and actions for right-clicking a classroom in the list and choosing "actions for [classroom name]" will do the asked action on all visible computers.

"Actions for [Classroom name] --> Administation (sic) --> Execute Commands" is a great way to run a text command/install script on all visible computers.
