About kimclayton

  1. Hi I am just considering Google Apps for education and the Microsoft Live@edu as alternative to the current provision from County, how did Norfolk arrive at the decision that GooGle Apps was the better option?
  2. just been looking at this today education pricing is £9.26 per user 1year however this is direct with our LEA licencing partner KC
  3. Hi I found the first version of these documents brilliant for raising appropriate levels of awareness with our senior management team. Combined with mention of the Ofst*d word was enough for them to commit to a project to implement a comprehensive data handling and information security framework in the school. Only downside is that I have got to run it!!!! We are a special school so our data ranges from child protection to the more routine pupil performance data. I have recently found the low cost AES encrypted memory sticks for around £10 for 1Gb and will be insisting that these must be used at all times for taking data off site. We have problems with Offline files on our laptops as in some cases 5 or 6 people may use the same laptop. Dos and Don'ts well written and will for the basis of my initial awareness session which i am giving to Staff after 1/2 term. Auditing paper is an absolute pig. Our LEA is currently running a seminar/roadshow regarding Info handling and I am attending the local one tomorrow. I'll feedback when I know what they are expecting us to do. KC
  4. Hi is there anyone using Plan-IT carreers planning web application with IE7? We are trialling the product, works fine with IE7 at home works fine at school with firefox Errors when accessing at school with IE7 I'm sure there have been similar problems in past that were caused by county firewall/cache configuration. any help appreciated kim
  5. Hi Ive read this thread with some surprise I havent had any problems getting innapropriate sites blocked. earlier this week eg I requested addictordie.com to be removed from primary access as we are a special needs school and some of the games are innapropriate. Response was within 24 hrs. I have also successfully requested that an individual bebo page was allowed as one of our kids was terminally ill and was using it as her blog. I have always found John to be very helpful so p-lease do not upset him Oh by the way I am not usually as pro the "service" that we receive from the RBC but this is rarely the fault of individuals within the organisation credit should be given where its due. the link that i use to make block/unblock requests is below: I would think that JohnH could confirm that this is still the correct route? 6. Hi all I have recently trialed Printmanager software on our native 2003 server network, xp pro workstations. However it does not seem to report properly on HP Printers that use Host based drivers. The printers are using jetdirect interfaces and configured on 2003 server and shared via AD Anyone any experience of this scenario?. any help appreciated Kim
  7. hi, just a quick note if you are going Gb Lan then avoid Broadcom chipset like the plague. We have spent days in the past trying to trackdown performance issues on our network only to find it was being caused by the Broadcom TOE. This is well documented on the web. regards kim
  8. Hi, We have similar issue as we hire out our ICT Suite We use Netsupport School and have found it to be extremely reliable with no noticeable slowdown. Kim BTW We had 18 I-Desks installed a couple of years ago - nothing but trouble until I insisted all Cassetttes were replaced with brand new ones built by Centerprise who used to build them for I-Desk before they bought the process in-house. These were installed Easter 2006 and since then no problems at all apart from a known problem with the Power supplies that I again insisted were replaced in all Cassettes. I did negotiate increedibly hard on purchase price so I dont feel too bad about my decision and they were definately the right choice for that ICT Suite.
