DVD issue

Afternoon,

right just been handed a box of dvd's, but cant access them.

there looks to be data written to them, apparently photos,

so im thinking they havent been finalized,

 

anyone know a way of getting the data off?

computer they were made on has long since gone.

I think the paid for version of ISObuster is capable of extracting the data from unfinalized disks? You could try the free demo and see if it can at least read a folder structure.

 

You can apparently also make use of a Linux Distro and the dd command to pull off files source

Sounds like poor quality discs to me. What make are they?

 

We used some Tesco DVD+Rs once and after they had data burnt to them, you couldn't read the data back.

You can also use the Disc Tools feature in Nero 12 to "sometimes" finalize a disk that has been created on another system. This might be something you can do with the trial edition...

Have you tried reading with a different DVD-rom and one that is a writer ?

Amazon brand DVDs are also particularly cr@p

Its not one of these strange custom formats of CD writing that used to be around is it?

I have recollection that for a while there was a format that treated a CD like it was a floppy disk, if you didn't have the driver installed you couldn't read the disk.

Might have been DirectCD/UDF format, but im going back a few years now! anyone else remember this?
