"Objective-C without the C" - the conference room went live when they announced this. Wasn't expecting a whole new programming language.

(I'm not a programmer, just thought I'd post about the news)

The official website for the Swift language is swift-lang.org.

Apple's website has more details on Swift too.

https://developer.apple.com/swift

There's also a free 500 page iBook titled "The Swift Programming Language" available on the iTunes Store.

https://itunes.apple.com/gb/book/the-swift-programming-language/id881256329

Writing code and seeing the results in realtime is very cool.

A few places have been talking about real time programing apple seems to have got something out the door first.

Looking forward to the hopefully lower costs and higher avalibility of home automation stuff now apple are involved I just hope for everyone's sakes they have not got the whole lot ties up in patent knots to ruin it for everyone else.

Great now if anyone brings anything remotely similar to the table it'll be utterly destroyed - Brilliant.

Looks like a lovely bit of kit but Apple's anti-competitive behaviour worries me.

@Arthur http://www.swift-lang.org is a completely different programming language that's been around for ages. The other links are good though.

There's nowt really special about Swift as far as I can tell, all the fancy stuff seems to be in the IDE, which unfortunately is baked in to the bloatware that is Xcode.

I'm interested, but I'm not excited.

Well spotted! The website was down at the time I posted the link so wasn't able to check. :)

Wow, this looks amazing. Any idea how long this would take to learn? I've never meddled in Objective C or the like but judging from screenshots this looks as thought it could be pretty cool.

It's sort of like C# to C++ and C, nothing really new here in that sense, the language is just Apple's take on a high level managed programming language.

From a naming point of view I feel like Apple have once again set themselves up for a court case, there is already a programming language named Swift, it even uses a similar logo. So this is bound to be in the news at some point.
