HTC One M8 vs Galaxy S5

it's a 5S 32gb in White/silver. Tis currently locked to voda though i'm guessing (haven't tested it).

M8. I got mine a week ago and love it. And every online comparison I've seen has fallen heavily to the HTC One.

 

The S5 is a long way from a bad phone, but if you're shelling out so much you may as well get the better option.

That's the Moto G, it doesn't have an SD Card slot. You sure you didn't mean a different model as that model has been out for ages.

 

Also, you can get the 8GB model for £99 from Tesco and an unlock code from ebay for £2.04.

 

This is the new version which has 4g and an sd card slot.

Beats the S5 as you can put icons you want on the lock screen launcher

 

I wouldn't use the stock launcher on either. Just grab the Google Now Launcher apk. Nexus simplicity, M8/S5 build quality.

 

Better yet, chuck Cyanogenmod 11 on instead!

 

I've got an S4 with Cyanogenmod - ability to replace the battery was a dealbreaker for me.

Ive just had the insurance payment from my stolen S5, and not sure whether to buy another S5 now, or the One M8.

 

I hadnt realised the M8 didnt have a swappable battery, that might make the difference for me..

I wouldn't worry too much about swappable batteries these days. Just buy a portable USB recharger for the same effect.

 

I have one that charges my Moto 4G 4 times over, that I take on long trips

As @zag mentioned, you shouldn't miss the swappable battery with an external USB battery pack. I have a 12,000mAh battery for my Nexus 5.

 

The M8 has a really fast touchscreen, front-facing speakers, is better designed (IMO) and has less bloatware. The dot view case is pretty cool too.

The one main problem with the HTC One M8 is the camera is absolutely dreadful, my girlfriend has the S5 and I can't fault it although if it was me I'd wait a bit and get the Samsung Note 4 for the extra punch in performance and all the good features like multi-windows etc...

 

As @zag mentioned, you shouldn't miss the swappable battery with an external USB battery pack. I have a 12,000mAh battery for my Nexus 5.

 

Don't just think of the "bigger battery upgrade" also think of the fact if you can't change the battery and the battery ever has a fault or stops eventually holding charge you'll have to get it sent to HTC to replace, also HTC lock the boot loaders on all their devices making flashing ROM's that bit more difficult (thanks HTC) - Apple Copy Much? But then again if you like Apple then yes buy a HTC One M8.

Just thought I'd throw in a curveball and recommend the Sony Xperia z2!

 

I've had mine now for about 2 months (ish) and it's a bloomin fantastic phone. It's well built, has a lovely screen, it's fast, decent battery life and has very little bloatware (compared to Samsung at least).

 

It's certainly worth considering

I run X-Note on my Note 3 which has no Bloatware from Samsung, yet I can still install certain things if I want to, it also lets me have all the widgets and apps from the Samsung Galaxy S5, I also have the app Greenify which works by hibernating apps that don't need to run in the background all the time, on holiday my battery lasted 4 days with still 15% charge only had to chafe it once while on holiday.

 

The bigger screen size means that browsing the internet and watching films etc is a lot nicer to that of any smaller sized phone, I can also run 4 Applications at once with X-Note I normally have YouTube open in one Window, OneNote, Internet and Edugeek all running at once on the same screen, the Pen Window also comes in handy. The phone is excellent I can't fault it! Though I never run Samsungs Stock OS to bulky and performs like carp.
