[sccm 2012] WDS Image import to SCCM 2012

Hi All,

 

I have just recently moved over to SCCM 2012 but I have the old WDS .wim images of current laptops/computers that i want to import into SCCM 2012 so that I can use those as well as setting up new task sequences for new laptops.

 

How would I go about doing this?

You don't need to do anything special.

 

Copy the WIM to a file share.

Add it as an operating system image in your SCCM console

Distribute it to a DP group

Create a task sequence or edit an existing task sequence to use it.

Deploy the task sequence to a collection

 

You shouldn't need to do anything to the WIM itself, it should just work.

Assuming that you're using Windows Vista or above and that you sysprepped the machine using the /generalize switch, you don't need to have an image per hardware platform. Add your drivers to SCCM and let SCCM sort it out.

We have windows 7 but at the moment not all of our software and drivers are within SCCM so was trying to see if I could do the way as I said as a bit of a short cut before all our software is within SCCM

I'd add drivers to SCCM as well. It's not a hard process. You can just dump all of them into a folder structure and get SCCM to sort through them and add them to its repository. It's well worth the effort.

I will be, just need a short term thing as I have a couple of laptops to image.
