[Office356] My Sites, OneDrive and Sharepoint

Hey Guys

 

We have signed up for Office 365 and have got the emails set up, and ProPlus so the students can install office at home. Before we release it we want to get the OneDrive working, but this does not seem to work (I thought it would be default). I am not sure if Sharepoint is required for OneDrive.

 

If I click on the OneDrive or sharepoint link it loops to the "Getting Started - refresh in a minute" page. It never goes further. Looking at the sharepoint settings users are allowed to create sites, however it does not seem to let them! I have seen a lot about Sharepoint Designer 2013 Hybrid integration but I dont really want to install it for one feature!

 

I would be grateful for some help or a walkthrough that might help.

SharePoint and OneDrive Business is effectively the same as far as Office 365 is concerned, so you will need to assign that license as well if you wish your students to have OneDrive access.

I have assigned Sharepoint since setting it all up, there is no individual lisence for OneDrive.

Correct. OneDrive for Business is part of SharePoint Online, there is no separate licence for it.

So its activated, the question is why cant general users access it and create their sites? Admins can access and manage the main site, students can also access the site (although I have just locked permissions).

I'm not sure what you mean? The first time the user clicks on the OneDrive link, once you've assigned a licence, SharePoint will start provisioning their OneDrive for Business. This can take a little while, but it's a first-run thing. Once it's set up, it's good to go.

Thats the issue, I clicked the onedrive and sites links about 3 months ago. When I click it it still goes to the "setting up page". As an admin I can go in and see if the user has a site at whch point I get and error to say that user does not have a personal site.

We found that it can take 24 hours for the SharePoint provisioning to complete for each user

If it still hasn't created a profile for your account after this long, I'd log a support request.

Will do. I have contacted my re-seller but they dont have a clue.

We've had this happen to us - just log a call to MS and they will sort - although not sure they can check all accounts in a tenancy....

Well the good news is that we have not yet released it so I can delete all and re-set it all!
