It is going to be an interesting trial, whatever happens. They weren't themselves hosting anything illegal, they were simply enabling others to get to those files... It comes down to whether or not hotlinking is illegal...

It's enabling a criminal act to take place so I wouldn't hold out much hope for him, he's aware that what he was doing would enable people to download pirated or copyright material. They'll get him on something.

If a criminal steals a CD from a shop and then gives it to someone for christmas and they play the CD are the criminal aswel? (I know great example) lol

All he was doing was linking, pointing the way how is that illegal????

"You wouldn't shoot a Policeman and then steal his helmet. You wouldn't go to the toilet in his helmet, and then send it to the Policeman's grieving widow, and then steal it again. Downloading films is stealing; if you do it you WILL face the consequences!" - IT CROWD

So does selling a tape recorder, or hosting a search engine. So does selling video cameras, a car, a knife, a crowbar etc... Almost anything can be used illegally, the point is whether linking to someone else hosting those files is actually illegal or not.

The actual culprit in all this is google and the other hosting sites.

Yes, this is called handling stolen goods.

The main purpose of all those things tho' localzuk isn't an illegal activity - unlike tv-links

Not so, the activity is not illegal as far as I can see - they aren't actually providing anything on their site, except a couple of lines of code which link to another site. If google video or youtube is hosting the video, it is normally safe to assume that it is there legitimately - the fact that it isn't is not something that the end user will know.

You stated that they are enabling illegal activity - which the provision of all those other things can be said to be doing also. This site could very well have linked to videos which were legally hosted on other sites - this isn't for the end user to judge, it is for the hosting party to provide legal things.

Also... :D all the others are careful to cover their backs by saying that they're taking steps to prevent it.

the 'purpose' isn't using tv-links - it's what you use tv-links 'for' - don't you agree?

If linking to sites that host illegal or questionable material is illegal in itsself, then surely all search engines would be breaking the law in someway. E.g if I put in 'Eminem Download' into google, the third site in the list has virtually every eminem song you would want available to download for free.

If it wasn't on google, then I wouldn't be able to find it, so if it's found that tvlinks were braking laws of somesort, then are google breaking the same law by providing this link??
