robjduk Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Afternoon all, Does such a document exist which tells me what to change when I migrate my SIMS database to a new server? I hear there is information in the "active directory provisioning tech guide" but am currently failing to find a copy so wonder if anyone can say "ah yes you just go here and press this"... Thanks all
vikpaw Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Try resource number 12812 on SupportNet. or just click on documentation and search for "ADPS tech" 1
robjduk Posted April 11, 2014 Author Posted April 11, 2014 Incase anyone is ever in the same boat... I logged a call in the end as I made little sense of what I found on support net and it turns out that anything to do with redirection is installed on the SIMS server along side the database rather than along with SLG's sharepoint or provisioning servers. Capita support tell me it is a chargeable job to have the software reinstalled on a new server so I am thrilled. My fault for thinking it would be as simple as pointing it to a new database but no. Why my school continues to use this bloated software when there were such good parent portals at this year's BETT show I just don't know.
PhilNeal Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 I can't help on the installation issue but I do wonder if your setup is pointing to our first gen release? The new stuff is highly graphical and includes homework setting and marking. We've been holding sessions across the country and have been found quite a number of schools that weren't aware that things have moved on.
FishCustard Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Apologies for raising this thread from its grave, but in case anyone else is searching for guidance on how to get SIMS LG to work following a SQL migration, the attached PDF might be useful. You have to make some changes to the config files the SLG connector uses (swapping SERVER\SIMS2008 out for SERVER\SIMS2012 in my case), and then submit a ticket to Capita so that they can update their end to point to the new SQL instance.
