MrKJLS Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Hi, I'm looking for a cheap tower server, but it needs to able to run VMware vSphere. At the moment the project hasn't been conformed. But it need to be pretty cheap or even hardware recommendations for building a small cheap server would be helpful Kieran
andy_b Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Depends how cheap and what needs to run on it. A HP Microserver can be good value, especially when the cashback offer is in operation - HP 704941-421 ProLiant MicroServer G7 N54L | ServersPlus

I need them to them to run as AD, IIS, UTM and a File server. They need to able to run VMware vSphere as well.
MrKJLS Posted April 9, 2014 Author Posted April 9, 2014 What sort of specs are you talking? i7/Xeon 8GB/16GB RAM 2TB Storage
ICTDirect_Dave Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I can do you a Refurb Z800 workstation for a reasonable price. Loads of primary schools buy these from me to use as their main server. Drop me a PM with the kind of spec you're looking for and I'll put something together for you 1

For home use my microserver runs ESXi hosting 2 windows servers running AD/IIS/WSUS/WDS/MDT, Sophos UTM (home version) and assorted linux VMs pretty well. It's only me that uses it though.
