Rm Administrator password for obsolete laptops

Help guys, I inherited about 50 laptops. my school used to be run by RM. This laptop are running XP.Anyone know how I can crack this. I have tried Ophcrack. I need to access this machine and make recommendation

You should be able to reset the bios password. It's a security risk to put the "rm" password on here.

we use a linux based password reset, works for xp & win7, its pretty easy put it on usb or cd and boot from it, few prompts and should be good to go.

I was going to tell an amusing anecdote about an RM password from the 90's (I mean what are the chances they still used it?)

 

Then I remembered meeting up with an old friend from school a couple of years ago, and being somewhat alarmed when one of them remembered my password from '93 because I'd just reused it as the domain admin password of my new network.

 

I mean what are the chances they'd still have those sorts of defaults!

@psydii lol very funny.PM I will try it lol. I got 50 plus laptop I need to find a simple solution. @rad I dont think resetting bios on 50 plus laptop is an option.

Sorry, I'm not posting it here. But five seconds with google got it up. What I will say is that events in the anecdote have been replayed here (more subtly). Anyone who was present at the event I am not describing will have a good idea what the password might be from reading this thread.

So the school should have the passwords to their own devices... even if they were run by RM. I would imagine that a quick call to Customer Relations should either get the Head the passwords, or perhaps and engineer to site FoC to reset them to a new password chosen by the school?

If this is the XP administrator's password there is a free boot program called "PC Login Now"... boot with the CD, tell it to erase the Admin password (or whatever one it lists) reboot and login under Administrator with no password. I believe it works with Win 7 too.

@psydii, when I took over there was no hand over, no doc etc. Laptops were kept in the server room chilling and wasting away. I might give RM a ring tomorrow lol. We have a new company supporting the school, a new network, new laptop etc. I was hoping to get a trolley and use this as stand alone in rooms.

Why not just reinstall them if you have a fresh network?

Thanks guys, I cracked it. @Boredguy reinstall is out of it, I will have to reinstall over 50plus microsoft office and other programs. These laptop are not going back on the network. Thanks once again
