I'm looking to replace my personal HP laptop as it's quite dated and at times struggles to play iPlayer radio without stuttering! There also seems to be an issue with the charging socket/circuit and battery I quite like the HP laptops so I was looking at the ProBook range and came across a 6470b that looked like a decent spec (although I'm a little out of tune with what's a new/decent processor). It has an i5 3340m, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD and the Intel HD 4000 graphics (I don't really play any games on it so this shouldn't really be an issue?). Is this a good spec laptop for £350? Do these range of business laptops have 3 year warranties as standard with HP? Thanks
3s-gtech Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 That's ultra cheap for £350, almost suspiciously so. For that spec I'd bite their hand off. It's last gen, but meh.

gatelion Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Think 6470b is out going model. I bought them 2011 and usually hp business models are in production for 3 years. I'm guessing that's why the low price.
sonofsanta Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 That's an amazing price, considering the SSD's already in - normally an i5 laptop at that price would be a bargain anyway, then you'd factor the SSD in on top and feel like you had a good deal. The only downside is the make - HP chassis are a bit flimsy for my tastes at the moment, but hey, if you like them, you're onto a definite winner there.
localzuk Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Flimsy? The 6470b is in the same case as the 6570b (except an inch smaller), and we find the case pretty tough compared to most. That's a good price, definitely. We buy the 6570b here, and we pay about £600 or so for the i5 and add our own SSD. However, one thing to note with the 'includes an SSD' models is availability. I found it near enough impossible to actually get one, even though they're advertised.

Lenovo and Asus seem the better built at the moment, until the next round of redesigns. At £350 for that spec, though, I'd take the risk!

Yeah, you *really* can't compare business models to consumer models. HP consumer models are terrible. The business models are very different. Super easy to fix when something gets broken too (a teacher broke a screen here last week, we replaced the screen in about 10 minutes total).

Is this new or refurb? Either way the warranty is transferable so you'll be covered. Great machine though

I have an E420s which work provided - anything from there range which is over 400 quid tends to be excellent quality. They bought the IBM range of laptops and took it out to the consumer, infact they also just took over Iomega and are also going to be taking IBM's thinkserver range I believe

Or I've got a couple of Thinkpad W510s with quad Core i7, 8GB RAM, 120B SSD for £430 Ex. Not the cheapest, but definitely awesome!
