Hi,

 

I am having issues with a class full on Chromebooks and my ruckus network.

 

It seems to be when a lot are attaching and the connection drops out. The 7363 is 10 feet away and its fine with my windows phone.

 

The Chromebooks attach to the internet through Smoothwall on a separate VLAN with allocated IP's from the SW box set to transparent access to the internet.

 

The Ruckus have no security just mac filtering.

 

Baffled why this is an issue, I have set the CB's to not pre-fetch (setting on the CB's) which I thought was the solution.

 

I thought the CB would whizz along but they are garbage at present.

@Arthur - am sure there was another thread regards to chromebooks and dhcp issues etc ie having to make a dhcp reservation for each chrome book or there being some update ( can't remember )

It is a known issue with windows DHCP servers and chromebooks, What i recommend you do is go into chrome://flags on a device and select: Experimental static ip configuration

When done reboot and go into network and input the IP address the DHCP server reserved and your nameservers, Reboot the device and connect to the network.

 

Fixed!

 

If anyone else could test this that would be great (and post back)

Strangely using the VLAN for just the Chromebooks cameback with a ping of 100+ via speedtest, on the main network default vlan with security was 20

100 and 20 as in ms time to live etc or what exactly ?

 

With VLAN's don't you have to have both vlan's tagged or un-tagged etc and also the dhcp or ip address helper etc etc

 

Will just stay subscribed as don't think I can be of much more use , sorry

I was under the impression that unless an access point was using wpa2 then the speed of the connection was limited to 54Mbps. (it's in the specs for wifi alliance) even if the AP is capable of more. This may depreciate performance.

I use WPA2-Personal at home and get 450mbps on wifi ( 5ghz ) vs at work on WPA2-Enterprise with AES and a certificate etc and get 300mbps again on 5ghz

(I still have lowly 54g) but re-enforces my statement doesn't it?

 

my thinking was that if all these chromebooks are limited to 54Mps (over n) then performance would suffer as @Simcfc73 doesn't use wpa2..

Is that due to having a 54G WiFi AP or router ?

@mac_shinobi For me personally it's because I have an old netgear at home at g standard (as it's still the very fastest adsl router ever) compared to 2 newer routers I've bought (billion and newer netgear) BUt were off topic...

 

What I'm saying is that the specs set by the WiFi alliance cripple speeds on the N standard if they DO NOT use WPA2 with AES. Some people disable wpa2 encryption thinking that it will slow the connection down but it's the reverse!
