Foundation school status?

I have got wind that the school I work it is pushing for foundation status. Looking through the documents one thing that jumps out is how the school will have "greater flexibility over the deployment of it's support staff", and how we'd be tuped over presumably from the council to the school

 

Do we need to start tipping the union off?

 

What I would like to know is how will this affect us and if anyone else is going/has been through the same process

From what I can gather instead of being controlled/influenced from the LEA over things like admissions, employment, buildings etc.. the LEA takes an "advisory role" and the governers basically run the school and not the council (we are a secondary modern at the moment).

Yes all staff inc teachers become employed by the school (this is why the national wage scheme for support staff is very important)

You can still be tuped from a foundation school via the BSF scheme. We had a bloke in the other week trying to tell us that nothing would change when it happpens but our reply was 'Yeah right - of course not'.

 

Our says that we'll be tuped 'over my dead body' but the way I see it, if the the head wants the school rebuilt we'll have to be tuped out. It's all been agreed in the BSF contracts.

Yeh i've had that line too - it's like "oh we don't have to worry about the implications of BSF because we'll be a foundation school by then"

 

i think the implications will be very clear when the head has a new building dangled in front of him (and who could blame him)

 

Maybe i over-reacted at first, it seems a lot of schools are going through this foundation stage.

We too are a foundation school and the same things have been said to me

 

"We will be able to do what we want because we have foundation status"

 

We have always been very independent from the LEA and anything to do with County Hall / ICT Solutions. But I do have a feeling that eventually everyone will be forced over to this outsourcing malarky.

As I have said before, the head at the local comp (I'm a governor) is ignoring anything I say about BSF as he firmly believes that as a foundation school IT will be his business and he won't have to have the managed service. I can't convince him otherwise. I have an ICT governors meeting next week for the whole area (Poole) and I would like to be able to explain the implications of BSF to them. I will try but all ammo gratefully received.

AFAIK Foundation status makes no difference. You'll still have to put up with a managed service, and Tupe-ing.

See again Heads kept in the dark for as long as possible... happend here in out County... Head defended the Tech"over my dead body" and by the time he really found out it was too late and he said well you going have to accept it and move on..
