Photoshop CS4 Slow for Students but not for Admin

We're having a strange problem with adobe photoshop cs4 when students login and try using it, it runs like a bag of spanners doing anything - like clicking on the file menu takes ages to load before you even get to the point of creating your project

 

When we login its all smooth sailing as it should be on the I5 PC's with 4gb RAM and SSD's

 

Anyone experienced anything similar? How did you resolve

Are you loading up the 64bit or 32bit version? I've found quite a difference in speed between them.

both installed and runs slow on both versions, when I mean slow its painfully slow - I'm thinking possibly something to do with scratch disks or the appdata folder - been tweaking both without much success

Antivirus on demand scan? McAfee hammered Photoshop here until we put exclusions in.

we use Sophos but the problem happens before a PSD file is even created, also it doesn't happen with us when we are logged in using the same antivirus setup

Check your appdata paths - we had a strange problem which affected staff not students and found we had a difference in how the groups were configured for redirection. Changed so they were the same and al was fine - sadly can't remember off the top of my head what value we set though...
