Hyper-V connecting to admin and curriculum networks?

I want to make some of the my hyper-v resources available on my admin network, the server has 4 nics available 1 of witch is tied to my curriculum virtual network.

 

Am I right in thinking I just connect up a spare nic create an admin virtual network and then just point my admin VM's to that virtual network?

How does windows decide which virtual network to use, as at the moment in control panel I see a curriculum virtual network and an admin virtual network both setup with different IP settings, gateway DNS subnet etc.

You tell your VM which one to use when you set up the network cards on the virtual machine. (ie. the settings for the machine in Hyper-V) Edited March 24, 2014 by localzuk

Didn't present my question well, I mean within the physcal windows server itself as effectively it now has 2 network cards connected to 2 different domains?

The host itself (so things like Windows update on the host) will go by the IP address of the server it has to connect to.

 

If both networks can service the task, you should set up a static routing rule of your own, to determine which network to use.

 

The guests will use whichever card you assign to them on the virtual switch.

If you have Layer 2 switches that support VLANs and your server supports VLAN tagging then you could assign the Admin VMs NICs to tag on the Admin network.
