Server Network card - No Ping? All appeared to be fine????????

Last night at around 6.30pm Dell Open Manage informed me that our main NAS server connected to our array had lost contact..

I came in early this morning expecting the worse but found that it was powered on and appeared to be a network problem. When i logged in locally and checked the network card team it showed cable connected and had an IP etc, ipconfig showed all the correct info etc.. but i couldn't ping out.... "General Transmit Failure"

I disabled and enabled the card and it was then fine. It has never happen before and ive not seen anything like it before? Has anyone seen this or any idea what may cause this kind of behaviour?

Dell 1950 connected to an MD3000 with Server 2008 R2.

Event viewer showed nothing but one entry at 18.36 "Sophos Failed to communicate with parent router 10.X0.X.12" which is expected..

Thanks in advance

I'm wondering if a recent update has been applied?

I have had two servers on different sites in the last few days decide to stop the Server service for no reason!

Could be something and nothing, a process that's been leaking memory for months unnoticed can do this.
