This is a network printer (and there are others exactly like it on our network as well - set up exactly the same). the LAN is good, the IP is good, the settings are good.

I deleted it, recreated it, rebooted it, checked the LAN cable, checked the power cable, removed it off the user PC and re-added it.

When I turn it off and back on - it goes to processing job - blinks the data light 10 times, then goes back to ready mode.

I can't get it to work outside of directly hooking it up - and that is not the point of it (its supposed to be a network printer!)

I am at my wits end here - can't find anything in the manual - and HP can't help cuz the warrenty is out.

Thanks,

Ada

Have you tried swapping the JetDirect card with another printer to test whether it might be that? I had a similar problem on a 2300dn.

Ditto. I've had a 2420n do the same thing. This had an on board jet direct card, but wouldn't print from it and the jet direct settings had disappeared from the menu. We brought a slot in one to replace it, and it's worked fine ever since.

well, i hadnt tried that (yet), but my supervisor is telling me it's a simple fix....I went through the troubglshooting manuals and did everything it said to do!

Anyways - The Jet Direct settings are in the menu, I am able to ping the IP address assigned to the printer, and when I go through online I can see how much ink it has in it....

I am frustrated really....I dont have the spare parts to try what you are suggesting, but i will try it if i get the chance.

thanks :)

@ada22305: Any EIO JetDirect card should do the trick to troubleshoot... you can remove one from a working printer, test it in the 'faulty' printer and replace it in the original printer in under 15mins!

Ditto also. Hmm, duff batch of network cards?

How much is a new JetDirect card? Would a dinky cat5-to-USB style network print (<=£40) server be a cheaper, and equally suitible, solution?

Thanks guys for the help! We didn't have a JetDirect card - we had a NIC card installed instead. It went bad....So my sup said that he had some extra JetD cards, and we will install one in it - but for the meantime - he installed a new printer!

Go figure - tax dollars at work... Hope you have a great day - and again - thanks!

it is on a 2003 server - but the problem was the network card itself. ended up just replacing the printer (as we dont have spare network or jetdirect cards) and problem was resolved.
