Marshall_IT Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 The link below is from my MDM provider but i'm sure others will support it straight away too. Discover the Device Enrollment Program from Apple

FN-GM Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Bad news... just looked and you can't join the device enrollment program yet in the UK. i will try to find out when it will be coming... Why does the USA perfuse to accept they are not the only country in the world!
elsiegee40 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 ... perfuse... Perfuse?! Definition: permeate or suffuse with a liquid, colour, or quality. Refuse, methinks?! 3
Marshall_IT Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 Yep, I've gone from ecstatic to enraged... I really hope we can use this soon... I deploy at the end of April beginning of may. 1
bossman Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I think @Sylv3r is using our LA's version of it and he says its really good except it has costs from our LA so not free like I suppose it is in the USA
FN-GM Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Perfuse?! Definition: permeate or suffuse with a liquid, colour, or quality. Refuse, methinks?! Urgh! Auto-correct will be the death of me!

Definition: permeate or suffuse with a liquid, colour, or quality. Actually given recent weather patterns, with vast quantities of rain kicked up by abnormally cold weather over North America, maybe your autocorrect was right @FN-GM... it just got the context wrong Urgh! Auto-correct will be the death of me!
Brimstone Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 The link below is from my MDM provider but i'm sure others will support it straight away too. Discover the Device Enrollment Program from Apple Unless this is for US eyes only I see Airwatch on the BS wagon again just like they did with their "so called" immediate support for iOS7 they jumped on iOS7 and managed distribution the day after it was announced then had to rewrite their MDM interface because there was nowhere to upload your VPP token!! Don't believe the hype.....
Marshall_IT Posted March 5, 2014 Author Posted March 5, 2014 I've just had it confirmed that none of these features are available outside of the Device Enrolment Program and that there is no support for OTA Supervision. I think this STINKS and even if the DEP was available in the UK, having to have bought your iPads directly from Apple to be able to do this STINKS even worse!
Arthur Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I think this STINKS and even if the DEP was available in the UK, having to have bought your iPads directly from Apple to be able to do this STINKS even worse! This might explain Apple's decision somewhat... Understanding Apple's New Deployment Programs « Fraser Speirs There are two major caveats with DEP. The first is that it is only for institutionally-owned devices directly purchased from Apple. There is no procedure for registering devices purchased, for example, over the counter at an Apple Store. My understanding is that this is a philosophical decision on Apple's part: admins should not be able to "capture" devices that they don't own. This is the same philosophy that says that personally-owned can't be locked into MDM. My own opinion is that this is not an unreasonable fear on Apple's part. Sysadmin over-reach is a real issue. The second caveat is that DEP is US-only for now. Apple operates a direct sales model in the US and therefore has knowledge of who ordered which devices, down to the level of individual serial numbers. That's not true in most other countries where Apple works through resellers to sell to institutions.
Marshall_IT Posted March 5, 2014 Author Posted March 5, 2014 I can see the point, but surely a well managed reseller programme would be able to supply s/n and customer numbers back to apple. Or, do something similar to Dell with asset tags and being able to register devices as owned by an institution. Still very frustrating.
speckytecky Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I reckon @FN-GM has discovered a great new word. As a dyslexic I love it! Perfuse?! Definition: permeate or suffuse with a liquid, colour, or quality. Refuse, methinks?!
maniac Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 (edited) Well 6 months on and still no sign of this coming to the UK yet. :-( I got all excited when in the latest version of profile manager, there's an option to only let users enrol device during the device setup! Great, finally a way to stop them removing the MDM profile. However, when looking into it I realise that feature only works in conjunction with the apple deployment program, and yes it's not available in the UK yet. (I actually found this thread while googling.) Never mind, maybe sometime soon they will let us have access to it! Edited August 15, 2014 by maniac
DMcCoy Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Don't worry, the play store for education is still awol in the UK too Big US companies couldn't care less about ROW as they put it...
cuester Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Boo ya this just hit Canada. Hopefully good bye meraki hello zero touch 2
maniac Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Boo ya this just hit Canada. Hopefully good bye meraki hello zero touch I really cannot wait for them to finally release this to the UK, it will make my life soooo much easier! While I have quite a slick enrollement procedure with apple Profile Manager now, which works a treat, the big problem is the Students can still remove the profile and there's pretty much nothing I can do about it in reality, it's so damned annoying!
Arthur Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I really cannot wait for them to finally release this to the UK, it will make my life soooo much easier! The ability to setup multiple tablets via NFC is very cool...
lewisburgess Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Apple's Device Enrolment Programme became available in the UK this week: https://www.apple.com/uk/education/it/dep/
Marshall_IT Posted November 14, 2014 Author Posted November 14, 2014 I contacted my supplier Wednesday morning and they said "apple announced this but are not setup yet to provide it and there is some technical requirements on ourselves that Apple still need to define and provide us. They are telling me they are about 4-6 weeks away from having this live." Not great news for me as i wanted to hand out 220 in January and I'm not sure this'll buy me enough time. I'll keep updating this thread as i get more info for anyone that's interested. 1
