Dungeon Keeper (the REAL one)

I hate whoever it was that mentioned DK was free on GOG. I've wasted the whole weekend playing it. I'd forgotten just how addictive it is!

Sadly I'm now stuck at a level where the enemy keeper rushes you within about 5 mins of starting. No matter what I build or do it isn't enough, I have stronger creatures, he has strength in numbers.

First time so far I had to listen to the "your dungeon heart is under attack"

Which mission is it?

erm, cant remember the name of it, but you start at the north, other keeper at the south. you start in a square with your heart, tunnel out and its all open space with gold about, lava between you and the enemy. think its the first level you get the room where you can attract other creatures. after about 5 mins of building and mining the enemy has generally built bridges to my land, then sends over about ten bile demons, 5 wizards, a few dragons etc. all about level 3 but i only have about 6 or 7 creatures by then and they get wiped out immediately

i know, i was just trying to hold off as long as possible until i feel i cant do it without help.....so give it ten mins!

I think you have to "split up" there troops, tempt them down side corridors chasing your monsters, then pick all your guys and group attack one group etc etc.

that level has no side corridors. its just two islands separated by lava with a pile of gold in the middle. well, as far as i can tell

Did you bring a high level creature with you from the last level?

 

Just possess them and go hunting You should be high enough level that you'll be able to bash the other keepers heart to bits if you get there swiftly? Also There's four Dragons with no affiliation in one corner of the level. Get them before the other guy does!

brought nothing over no. and i get dragons attracted quite quickly, i can get 3 or 4 within minutes. i guess i could just use a dragon to go straight over the lava regardless of level as me controlling will be better

I think they're a decent level already.

 

And Without giving away location, hidden in the sides somewhere are two increase level speels to give all your minion a bump

I might have gone overboard in my victory. I didnt use possess but just built quick and researched the bridge first, got to their side, slowly started taking over his land and once i captured his portal that was it. in the end i'd captured the whole level apart from his lair and dungeon heart. left his bile demons sat in there healing while i used his training room to level up, and his gold to pay for it. then set off about 30 of my creatures to destroy the heart.

That sounds both fair and just. You've got to teach these rival Keepers who's boss!

got through the level after quite easily (partly thanks to a glitch that stopped heroes battering my door and just standing there, stopping the spawn of new ones, and giving me ages to make loads more doors and traps

 

now on a level with two other keepers, all three of us have a gem tile so it could be interesting

There is no 'overboard', young Keeper. If you're not bathing in a sea of your rivals tears, you're simply not doing it correctly.

i nearly cried last night.

got to a level where two keepers team up on you and you have to destroy them then the hero. i rushed to dig out to the chokepoints so i could wall them off. had half the level to myself with gem tiles. found horned reaper, loads of mistresses. all up to lvl9/10 trained.

 

first mistake was me dropping all mistresses in a corridor where the enemy triggered a boulder trap. crushed them all instantly! but i recovered from that.....defeated both keepers, got the heroes attacking me, no problem.....conquered the land, took just over an hour or totally destroying the enemy. got the message to say i'd won, press space to continue.....pressed it,.....nothing. game had frozen! only option to kill and reload....and it started me on that level again.

I have just started playing my original disc copy again. Just took me 2 hours to complete a realm but in true DK style, couple if lost battles then I waited for my minions to train up and then I stormed the other two keepers dungeons. Bring on WFTO I am going to be missing for days.
