nteeman Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Hi Guys We're working with a number of schools to migrate from e1 to Bromcom and struggling to get two bits of data from e1. 1. Pupil attendance data going back more than 1 year. Pearson have given us access to PI where we we access historical pupil attendance data for the last 12 months, this can be exported and imported to Bromcom. Any data over 12 months is not available using this option. 2. Staff absences. There is no field in the front end of e1 to export staff absence data. Has anyone else had these issues? Any thoughts on how to get around it or should I just apply more pressure to Pearson to supply us with this data? Thanks Nic
vikpaw Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Are you, or the school not allowed access to the backend system?
nteeman Posted February 13, 2014 Author Posted February 13, 2014 Neither, Pearson won't give access to the backend as it's hosted and the hosting is shared with all of the other schools.
vikpaw Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Pants! Aren't they obligated to provide the data to the school? Put more pressure on. If they are still a paying customer until date x - end of contract... Also, as a goodwill gesture for leaving the market. Bad form really. I can imagine other areas of Pearson sales suffering because of the way they let schools down on this front.
PhilNeal Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 I think you will find that e1 is not alone in only offering CTF, CSV output from their "cloud" solutions.
GREED Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 This is quite shocking to be honest, but when you consider they are trying to push everyone over to RM there is an interest to make it 'not easy'!
PhilNeal Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Does Aspen have APIs that allow TPs to access data in their cloud?
GREED Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Yes. The API built for their mobile platform also serves as third party API.
psydii Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) @nteeman If your schools are in Hackney, have you considered asking the Learning Trust legal to write you a strongly worded letter? (Edit:grammar broken in drafting) Edited February 13, 2014 by psydii
PhilNeal Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 @GREED - interesting not what I was told by the boss!
GREED Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) The boss being? Aspen has an API available that is a fact. That API is available for third parties to tap into. I'm not really sure how there is confusion. Perhaps PM me with details. I'm not really sure why I'm defending them I not longer work for them. It is a mute issue anyway seeing as it is no longer available in the UK. I'm reporting the facts objectively I have no need to defend, so unless there has been a recent strategic change there, as in the last 3 months, this is still the case Edited February 13, 2014 by GREED
Schoolmaster Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 (edited) @nteeman Have you thought about contacting their help desk if they have one or the mangers? SchoolMaster. Edited February 14, 2014 by Schoolmaster
matt40k Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 @GREED - he's clearly picked them up and their migration team is having trouble
GREED Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 @GREED - he's clearly picked them up and their migration team is having trouble Shoooosh
vikpaw Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 @nteeman - how are you getting on? Any more joy. I've heard from some other people lately who are struggling to get access to data from hosted E1 too. Surely there is some onus on them to help provide it, plus a legal bearing based on DPA or some such...?
GREED Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 As we all know DPA doesn't specify how that data should be given to the owner... could be an element to the problem!
GarlicSnails Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 As we all know DPA doesn't specify how that data should be given to the owner... could be an element to the problem! We are moving from e1 and are being told that we can only export what we can access via our user interface which is very limiting and not very helpful... This is contrary to what was quoted in their original FAQs when the withdrawal was announced to 'customers' in September 2013: "If we want our data back from either e1 or Integris how will it all be made available to us?Your data is your data, and we will pass this back to you in a format that is suitable to you."
GREED Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Then give them a ring and tell them they are breaking the law. The MUST supply you with every byte of data you store in your MIS currently.
