2 Drives in win7 pro.

Good morning all,

 

This is probably such a simple thing to sort out but i cant seem to kickstart my brain today...

Yesterday i got some components to upgrade my PC for gaming and in general (r9 270x, 120gb kingston ssdnow v300), i have installed them and got my old 500gb hdd plugged in too.

The problem is how ever that i noticed that my steam games will not install anymore as the SSD is full, is there an easy way to keep the important games on the SSD and have everything else (including programs) on the hdd.

dont think so iirc you can move the steam games folder to another drive but its all or nothing

 

i supose you MIGHT be able to add a 2nd pc logon to use for less well used steam games but not sure as ive not tried it

You could set the SSD up as a cache to speed up regularly accessed applications/games...

Ok, thanks guys.

So if i want to run my steam games purely from my hdd, can i just drag the steam folder in program files into the other drive and it will just work like that?

Yeah you change the install location in steam to D:\ or whatever your 500G Drive is assigned to, then copy the steam games over and rebuild your library.

I have my normal steam library on my mechanical drive, and manually copy over the game folder from steam to SSD, creating a symlink between them. Steam knows no different, game performance says otherwise (although I only do it for games where loading time is significantly higher than others. No gain otherwise)
