Last gen used console prices flatlining

I'm keeping all my older consoles so in 10 years' time the Dad version of me can drag it out of the loft, plug it in and show my kid/s what REAL gaming used to be like, with "none of your fancy mind-controlled 4D holographic stuff"

I still have my C64 for just such a reason, (and my Amiga too for that matter).

Bit of a thread ressurection here but recently I've brought a GBA SP for my sons upcoming birthday. He's very into retro gaming and given the price of some of the games it's cheaper than buying them on the virtual console (if released on there at all!)

One thing I did notice though is that if you go back 5 years you could pick up an orginal GameBoy for about £5, these days it's £25 sans games!

The same goes for games too. Where GB games used to be pennies they can now can go for substantial amounts.

It's nice in a way though to see these older systems getting the appreciation they deserve once more.

The Xbox 360 and Wii seem to have flattend out at anywhere between £30-£50 for the console on its own and more for bundles but older systems are now actively being sought out for a lot more that a few years back.

I really would like a Vectrex but couldn't justify the £200 asking price now

Still I'll get to have a play on one in a bit at Play Blackpool at the end of the month

its very hit and miss i ended up paying ~£80 for a gamecube title but to get it that "cheap" its s french copy imported from germany but a bit of detective work its the same number on the disk so it played in english (ive not seen an english one go for <£100 in a while so took a punt and won for a change)

 

still got a gameboy colour pocket and an sp and they still work as do by pokemon red/blue/gold/silver carts but gold/silver have lost the saves

 

again was looking at getting remake gold/silver as dsi carts but they are £50 ish and i aint that bothered lol

 

Only consoles ive gotten shut of since my snes have been ps1/ps2 but tbh ive always been really disapointed by playstations even though ive had every gen ps3/4 have both effectively been turned into blue rays as xbox one is a terrible blueray player and ps4 works off tv remote (so ive got dreamcast/gamecube/xbox/ps3/wii on a shelf(360 is still plugged in))

My dad flips SNES games on ebay all the time, and some of the stuff I've seen him selling for £100+

I suppose it's good for collectors but not so good for people who want to play retro games or even games they may have had years ago.

whats also bad is the vagaries of nintendos virtual console for example plenty of snes games are on wii virtual console but not wiiu (though you can play wii vc on a wii u it takes different payments and you then have to use that dreadful controller the wiimote rather than a wiiu tablet/pro controller) then you can end up buying the same old game 3 times do i bought mario world on wii vc and wii u vc (granted as i had it on wii was about £1.50 but its now on 3ds vc and im not paying £7 for it again

That's why we went with the GBA SP. It was £23 inc 8 games, it's backwards compatible with GBC and GB games as well with the added benefit of not locking us into a particular (modern) console to play them on in the future.

I've just stuck my PS3 and 11 games on ebay. I'd rather game on a PC than on a console.

I've been buying up PS3 games for a few years now. have about 100 now all bought for £3-6 quid!!

 

Bought the console for 50 quid and this will probably last me for the next few years playing games. Currently playing Uncharted 3 and its awesome.

I still have my 360 slim and would wonder if there's any point ever in selling and getting a XB1, I'm so casual in my gaming habits I don't even have XBL anymore; couple of plays of Don Bradman Cricket or replay of something and that's it.

 

Although if someone wants to sell me one for next to nothing so I can play Arkham Knight that'd be grand; E3 talk is of a slim model so can only assume there'll be some kind of price drop...

I don't sell my older stuff, tbh i'm annoyed my old man kept the Sega Mega Drive and the Sega Saturn when i moved out. The cheek of it!

 

My 360 hasnt seen the light of day for a couple of years now, was last used to play some kinect games, other than that I only have Fable 2. (it got RROD, sold all my games, eventually fixed it in some spare time)

 

PS3 hasn't been switched on for a few months. My list of games to even play is big, let alone complete. (haven't completed FF13, haven't touched FF13-2, and I still bought FF13 Lightning Returns....)

 

I subsribed to PS Now a couple of months back but with my current back log of games i'm cancelling it soon.

I've taken to grabbing GBA games at about 9pm as kids are in bed and you can get games which are usually about £15 for half that by sniping*

I've built up a very nice games collection for my son's birthday for very little money.

If retro gaming keeps on as an active hobby for many his collection should serve him well in the future
