StevieM Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Not been online since the video draw but by my reckoning I've got about 45 minutes to get my entry in for the bonus competition. Can't decide between 337 and 241 so I'm gonna toss a coin - heads is 337, tails is 241... heads it is... 337 please. 1
VeryPC Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 Thanks for the last couple of entries - If I've added a thanks to your post then it means it is recorded. We do have a single winner. I will announce the result at 10am today. See you later, Al
VeryPC Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 (edited) Okay, results time. The total number of valid entries that we ticketed and put in the box for our 10th birthday competition was... 293 And that means our winner is... @Driftingashore Well done to you! I will be in touch via PM to sort out the delivery of your Lego man heid shortly. If you are wondering how you did, I've collated all your guesses in order of accuracy below: Some great guesses, and some not so near the mark guesses. Thanks to everybody for taking part. VeryPC Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 You had a lot more invalid entries than I thought... I saw a 7xx entry on the video. You mis-saw I'm afraid. The numbers went nowhere near that high. Must have been a trick of the light. yes but many were duplicated or invalid About 10% actually. Al
featured_spectre Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 For what nefarious purposes smiley face? Al I like the formatting you have, and want to look at it. You can delete the usernames by all means
Griff Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 It's just so damn handy for list and stuff! I used to own one of these, but I broke it *whimper*: Al I dropped my VeryPC mug about 4 times so far..not broken once very happy with its bounceability
VeryPC Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 what on earth!! I have missed out on this thread.. Ah shame. VeryPC Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 I like the formatting you have, and want to look at it. You can delete the usernames by all means I seeee..... might we expect a reordered list to appear if I do by any chance? Sorry, just joshing - I know you guys like to, let's say "mislead" me about the results for comedy purposes sometimes. No matter, the official winner has been announced, so go for your life. The usernames are public anyway, so I've left them in - there's no confidential data involved. mini-comp-share.xlsx Al
sparkeh Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I demand a recount, I am sure there are 7 entries you didn't count
featured_spectre Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 alas no reordering, geniunely interetsed in your spreadsheet formatting. 1
TechMonkey Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I'm assuming it is the new Office colour scale conditional formatting at work. Nice use of it, most of the time it is thoroughly pointless!
VeryPC Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 I'm assuming it is the new Office colour scale conditional formatting at work. Nice use of it, most of the time it is thoroughly pointless! Yup - with an over-priority additional condition to turn the smallest number black so it stands out. Obviously I re-ordered them into closest to furthest before publishing, rendering the colour scale a bit redundant, but it was useful when they were in entry time order to give me an idea of who was close and not. Also used a condition on columns A and B to highlight dupes in red so I could eliminate any double entrants or guesses of the same number (neither of which actually happened, but if it had.... oooh I'd have been on it like a flash!) Al
VeryPC Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 I demand a recount, I am sure there are 7 entries you didn't count Hah. I kept a keen eye on it actually, but you already knew that. @Driftingashore got his 1 away guess quite early in the process actually, but there was always room for someone to guess the other side of the correct answer for a draw at 1 away or even someone to nail it right on 293 so I kept it going. If someone had nailed it I'd have stopped the competition right there to spare you fruitless entries. Al

I thought watching the video in slow-mo (mwhaha!) and taking a note of the highest number I saw would get me close, but I was sure there were plenty of higher numbers that didn't show.. but only one apparently! Awesome!

hawc Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Actual Winners.xlsxActually - this is the proper spreadsheet (all I need to do is change my avatar!)
