Screen size in a primary school

Hi,

 

We're looking at the possibility of setting up some Android tablets in a primary school. What are your opinions about screen size? If 7" was sufficient, we could afford more, but are they too compact for Key Stage 1 fingers?

I would say 7" is the perfect size for little hands.

7" if they have one each, bigger if they're sharing a tablet between 2 or more pupils.

7" is fine. How old are the kids? If we are talking about EYFS or KS1&2 I would recommend a fair amount of "finger room" around the screen. See Tesco's Hudl as an example. If you get ones with an edge to edge touchscreen you'll find the kids will keep intrupting the app while just simply handling the device.

If you're still in a planning stage, see if you can get demo tablets to check they're the right size.

 

IIRC, @ICTDirect_Dave can hook you up. [They sell tablets, I'm not suggesting you just randomly ask a company to send you demo kit...]

We are looking at the LearnPads which are pretty small - but the youngest children seem to cope fine with them. They are all used to dealing with their parents phones, I think so size isnt really an issue.
