Marshall_IT Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 I have both Netflix and Now TV subscriptions which I dip in and out off as and when (very useful now Walking Dead is back). Is walking dead on now tv? I have Netflix and didn't see it on there... The only thing I've ever watched on demand5 btw is Gotham which has just started. I'm pretty much the same as you as far as how i view TV nowadays. Netflix, Iplayer, YouTube, 4od. Not really itv or 5. I've tried amazon prime and love film, didn't like either of them.

Only thing i miss is some of the recorded stuff thats on the hard drive other than that IPTV all the way for me

Only thing i miss is some of the recorded stuff thats on the hard drive other than that IPTV all the way for me Sky are working on a new HD box which apparently has no HDD, its all hosted on servers. I prefer to have it on a HDD.
plexer Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I don't see how it's different to what they have now just means they are making more content available on demand which is great if everything was available live streamed or on demand there's no need for the record feature and no need for a hdd or a dish. The nowtv aka roku is all you need anyway really. Ben

Ben

Ben Personally I find it's swings and roundabouts. What I don't spend on TV I now spend on Broadband instead (arguably more useful - but I'm sure I don't use anywhere near the bandwidth available). I pay about £30pcm on broadband and £10 on IPTV, throw in my mobile and a bundle deal with Sky/Virgin would probably save me money. But then I'd probably end up with more TV and less phone and broadband... NowTV is a very good deal considering the channels, price and delivery method.

Ben I've no idea what that is! I pay VM £30pcm for 60mbps and keep thinking I should drop it to 30mbps. I know as soon as I do they'll go on one of their doubling everyones speed drives and I'll be back on 60mbps.
2097 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Thanks for that, I have yet to find an EPG which is as good as BSkyB's Even the very good Freesat plus boxes I don't like, the EPG's seem to over complicate things but I guess you can get used to it after a while. Apparently new EU laws are coming in (which will force Sky as a result of the law to release recording functions) soon to close this loophole as many other manufactures get up to tricks with their products, but I saw that on the net about five years ago so I would not hold my breath. On another note, as the Sky boxes start to add more and more features, no doubt someone will hack one in the end, but that's illegal, so I would have to part in such a thing. It was a Jtag exploit which allowed the flashing of a *custom* made firmware . Never done it , but seemed as simple as jtaging a xbox . If you just want to use a free view subscription , unsure of the leagalitys of it , but you could use a dream box ( which will obtain the FTA channels , allow you to record etc ) . The dreambox when connected to the network will also allow streaming of movies from a share as well . Another great feature if it also is . OpenPli comes with Open Webif Interface which means if your at work/holiday and you have all your ports corretly open , you can watch TV from your box at work.

Alkaline Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 I have Sky Fibre FTTC, and only get about 15Mb on average, I was one of the first to sign up in the area and it was 32Mb when I first got it. It is a lot more reliable and faster, even if it drops to 10Mb to which is near what I got on ADSL, it downloads HD content a lot faster. I know its an issue with over demand on the system as I get a 40Mb connection to the exchange. But for £20 I think its a good deal, could go to BT which is £15 but can't be bothered with dealing with open reach again.
