Hey everyone, it was great to meet so many of you at BETT :)

I have a difficult problem, a customer has 3 computers, all brand new but bought in 2 batches a week apart.

In their accounts program there is a function that prints to screen and then saves to the database. 1 computer saves everything in the database and the other 2 will not, just saving the first page. They are all windows 7, 64 bit machines. Printer drivers and BDE versions are identical. I really want to help this school but have ran out of ideas. It is definitely the computer and not the user as I have checked all combinations. The system uses a dbase database with index files. If the index files are deleted then the routine will work on all the computers, but only once.

This only happens at this one school and it has an RM network.

I am wondering if it is some kind of permissions issue against the computer rather than user - it must be a configuration setting somewhere.

I am not sure I have put this in the correct forum and I also doubt anyone can help but thought it worth a try!

Paul.

Try disconnecting a working one and none working one from the network (physically) then rename them with the oposite names. Boot them back up and do a gpupdate, force it if you need to, then restart it. See if the problem moves. That would rule in / out GP over membership. Not sure if that's how RM works in terms of deployment, but it might also point at RM configuration / rule it out.

Hiya Matt - the software is ok on the network as its been there for over 10 years and fine in hundreds of other schools, its literally these 2 new machines that have caused the problems - I am wondering if the RM setup on them is correctly done but thats well outside my knowledge. It is all a bit freaky!

Are the computers vanilla that are just on an RM network or are they Built to the RM network? You can tell from the log on screen. Ther'll be a pink 4 in the top left corner if it's CC4.

If they are RM Built check in the RM console to see if any of the users are Priviliged users on their computers. Check that the users are members of the same groups and have the same User types and policies applied. After that, check assignment overview to see that all the assigned packages are identical on these computers. If they are then that just really leaves diffences in any locally installed application. Are there any dependancies for the software and check appwiz to make sure they are all installed. Hope that helps.

Hi PRastall, not worked on RM for a few years and my initial thought would be to lower the PC's down to 32 bit OS with a fresh install, as the Database is 10 years old. but I would make the user a local admin first to see if its a permission thing as the old RM CC3 stuff used to like to dominate a bit, also check on the file location of the database to see if the user can access the location go to start run \\databaseserver\databaselocation if this opens then you can generally rule out network problems as it would be more file security then

Just wondering if you get the one person whose works fine to logon to the other 2 computers with there account and see if its the same on the other 2 computers.

If it is still the same then obviously not related to there AD / Windows logon account or profile, if it works fine on the other 2 computers with that one persons account then maybe a security group or extra access that the one person has which the other 2 people don't have ??

If it is still exactly the same regardless then as above most likely something else ............... process of elimination

Also is it possible to get both the 32 and 64 bit drivers installed for the dbase database on the 2 non working computers ( may need some extra configuration etc to link the database to the account package software or similar ) ??

May be worth while checking the database drivers etc on the working computer to see if the settings on the working computer are the same or different between the working PC and the none working PC ??

Just some thoughts , not sure how helpful they are ?

Just to update that this is looking like a network issue as we are getting inconsistent and worrying ping responses between the server and the client! we are hoping that a small reroute of the network will solve the problem. Thanks for the input so far.
