IE 11 group policy

Hi

 

I am having problems with group policy settings on browsers now that clients have updated to IE 11.

 

I am unsure, due to information overload from google searches, whether the way to remedy this is to run IE 11 on the server and use group policy preferences.

 

If this is the case I need Service Pack 1 on my R2 server. I don't want to do this just in case......

 

But if its the only way I better get on with it.

 

Is this the only way? Anyone any ideas?

Build a win 8.1 vm. Install rsat build a gpo with gpp. You 2008 r2 server really should be on sp1. How come some clients are on ie11 if you haven't approved it?

You don't need to use IE11 on the server to manage it, though I would strongly suggest that you put SP1 on your server. It has been out for several years and is perfectly stable. Installing IE11 (over IE9) will knock out IEM in Group Policy so you won't be able to manage IE9 this way any more. If you're moving from IE10, there's not a great difference.

You need either:

 

A Server 2012 R2 server (via Group Policy Preferences)

or

A Server 2008 R2 server with a modified GPP XML file to allow you to manage IE11 preferences - How to enable Group Policy Preferences support for IE9 (change the max value to 99.9.9.9). I can confirm that this works fine in all of our testing.

Ok just reset the max value to 99.9.9.9. It was 10.x.x.x or something thereabouts. I will try this out asap
