Do Unifi APs need to use the PoE injectors they come with them or can an 802.11af PoE switch be used. The AP I'm looking at is the UAP-LR

That doesn't really answer my question. I've already read that and the only thing I can conclude from that PDF is that you NEED to use the PoE injector on the low end APs unless you buy the PRO AP.

Unifi, Unifi LR and Unifi Outdoor require their own PoE injector, or a suitable midspan, as they operate at 24v. They indeed aren't 802.11af compliant.

The Unifi Pro however are, and can be run from any 48v PoE switch.

Not quite sure why you can't read the pdf properly:

Specifications (UAP-LR)

UniFi AP Long-Range

Dimensions 200 x 200 x 36.5 mm

Weight 290 g (430 g with Mounting Kits)

Networking Interface (1) 10/100 Ethernet Port

Buttons Reset

Antennas Integrated 3 dBi Omni (Supports 2x2 MIMO with Spatial Diversity)

Wi-Fi Standards 802.11 b/g/n*

Power Method Passive Power over Ethernet (12-24V)Power Supply 24V, 0.5A PoE Adapter Included

It's therefore quite obvious that they're not compliant and that as I said you have to use the injector that they provide and as you've rightly said yourself it's only hte PRO AP that is POE compliant.

I'm not super clear on what the OP wanted to hear. The only piece of information I've spelt out, over and above that from the PDF is that can use a power source other than the supplied injector, but it has to be a specific 24v item.

I seemed to have ruffled a few feathers, sorry. All I wanted to know was whether or not they needed to use PoE injectors. It wasn't clear to me in the unifi literature. Adding unnecessary wiring from a PoE injector isn't what I was looking for however those in-line adapters look ideal.

Sorry again for any confusion.

Same here, got about a 100 across a few sites, only ever had one play up, cheap enough to replace. Unlike any other managed solution...if you think what you save on bloated maintenance charges, plenty to cover the cost of the odd AP

I would just buy the Pro's and be done with it, there is some extra cost but the the extra port and dual band make it worthwhile in ease of setup (daisy chaining etc.) Once you have bought std uap's plus inline adapters plus extra cable Im not sure you actually save any money and you get better unit with the Pros. As always up to you though!

I should have said its for home use. Your probably right though I may end up just getting the pro version anyway to save any hassle. However I may need 2 which sends the costs up.
