BT Home HUB or Sky Broadband

BT Home HUB or Sky Broadband,

 

I am now down to two choices. THe BT home hub looks good but i dont really use the phone so would not be making use of their fre phone call stuff.

 

How ever i will be having Sky so i could go with Sky broadband.

 

Advice on your experiences please.

I am currently with Sky Broadband i have the 16meg package for £10 month.

 

I have had no problems with sky great ISP although i would advise you get your own router i ain't to keen on the Netgear DG834GT wireless Router they supply to you. but it would do if you never had the money to get a better router.

 

Speed wise i pay for 16meg but i only receiving approx 8meg Download and 764 kbps upload

 

Which i can cope with i live approx 1.8 miles from my exchange so i think its just my exchange is crap lol.

 

Roll on 21CN connection in 2008

They do upto 24meg broadband for £24 per month.

 

And I thought 21CN was just moving the telephone backbone from the current circuit switched system to TCP/IP and packet switching.

Yes BE are also good have seen a lot of very good reviews on them.

 

And about 21CN i head they were having it to the exchange.. and then i head it was coming as far as the curb.. < if that happened god we would have very good connections>

 

To be honest i aint had a detailed look into it yet been busy something i been meaning to read more on.. so i might be wrong so sorry if i am

Isn't the 21CN a replacement of the interlink structure between exchanges? I have not heard anything about it being to the door.

Thats what i though... the to the curb was just what i heard from some guys i talk to over the net.. dont put money on to the curb i was like shocked when i heard it myself.

Having been on BT Total Broadband for 12 months I can most honestly tell you it is Sh1t.

The home hub drops out many times a day and needs cycling. And the speeds gradually drop over the course of the year.

I started off on 6mbps, and within a year it was on 3

 

Now I have switched to sky, and a nice netgear router. It is back up to 6mbps, and not been cycled once in a month!

Had BT Total Broadband for over a year and never had one problem with them. Have been with BT internet since 2000 on dial-up and bar a handful of days it's run fine. Got the homehub and it's been faultless for the year much better than the linksys that was running our internet before.

The hub appears to have a major problem with concurrent connections. So, if you use any form of file sharing software, you need to limit this.

 

It also seems to like to update randomly, and fails to restart when it is done. This causes drop outs. Not much you can do with this though I'm afraid.
