Hey.. I need to find some A3 paper with a tear off A4 attached. Anyone got any idea how i can get these / know what this is called?

Right, ok. Thanks for that. I wasn't to sure of it, but i was asked about the possibility of it. This would be on quite a big scale, there would be nearly 30 outlets requiring boxes and boxes of this paper. They were thinking if the equipment is available, would it be worth them setting it up in one location and doing it inhouse. Another thing that needs doing is the credit account application forms, which doesnt feel like normal paper. It feels more like photo paper or a magazine page. What type of paper is this? Would a laser printer be adequate to print these?

I don't know how much it costs, i'd have to ask them that. As an example, I have on my desk an ATS receipt for some work on my car. This ie exactly the same as what im talking about. It has the ATS logo on the top, blue border around it. that stuff is pre printed and then the order details are printed on in the dot matrix. So if any of you have been to ATS Euromaster or similar garage, thats the type of thing im on about. Need something that can pre print this type of paper

They have over 100 of these dot matrix printers all eating away at the continuous tear-off paper. I need something that's capable to produce pre printed multi part continious paper for use in the dot matrix printers.

They use it when they make a sale, customer comes in, buys something, they process it on the system & then print the receipt on double paper. Just thought some of the experts here might know.

Hi, I'm trying to find a solution so that our company can print their stationary, account application forms etc inhouse instead of getting external companies to do it. The paper in question is the continuous mutli-part type. Two parts, one for the customers and one for the company to keep.(like tracing paper) The paper is used in dot matrix printers, specifically the Epson FX890. At the moment, an external company prints the letterheads and the contact details on the paper and then delivers it to us in a box holding thousands of pieces of paper all stuck to eachother (continuous tear off type). I'm trying to find out if we can cut them out and do this ourselves inhouse. We can get the continuous paper blank, but i need to know how we can print the logo + contact details on them for example? Any advice greatly appreciated Thanks!

Just wondering because since its a business, it could be argued that the income isnt mine. I could pay myself a £1 salary from it and keep the money in the business name. This stuff is a bit confusing and its very easy to get slapped with a fine if you make a mistake.

I'm sure this question will be helpful for some others on this forum too. I'm just wondering if I was employed full time and earning £25,000 per year, I then decide to start a small business in my spare time fixing pc's or designing websites. I understand that you can have £5035 before paying tax, Is my work income and the income from my small business combined? Let's say i make £5000 in my small business, does that mean it's under the paying tax limit or is my work income considered with it which would be £30k total? Any more info about this would be very helpful to me as this is something I want to do. Work full time to get a guaranteed income and then start a small business at home to see what i can do with that and have some fun. Thanks!

I could easily do this web based, but I've never developed a desktop application before. I've done quite a bit of web work. I'd like to have the experience of making my own app too

Yup, I try to avoid getting into the discussion that if their computers are broken. Some people don't appreciate how hard this stuff can be and how long it can take. The last person i fixed a computer for asked how much it took me, I said 5 hours. (Okay it wasn't a straight 5 hours, I had to leave it scanning etc) but he was shocked and paid me £60. I love those type of people I just hate people who don't even offer to pay. There was this one guy at work who had obviously been looking at porn on his computer asked me to clear all the junk off it. It took me a good few hours. I took it back to him, gave it to him, and he said "Thanks, bye, see you Monday". No offer of paying. He's recently asked me to look at his other computer too, he can forget about that!

Hi, I've always used Microsoft Access to hold my data but I don't like using it anymore. It doesn't look or feel professional. I want to build an application that can allow me to query, append, delete data and produce reports. Similar features that access offers but i want it to be a standalone application. Any advice on how best to do this? I was thinking VB + ADO.

I've done my fair share of PC repair for friends of family. Some, will pay well and some will expect you to give up your whole weekend for £10. I'm young so they think £10 is alot to me, newsflash, it isnt! Some will gladly pay me well. It's my fault too because I'm too nice. I dont have the gut to charge big bucks. Got any tips for this ? hehe. I dont take on as many jobs as i did before now because of people taking advantage of me. They think the £10 they gave me 3 months ago is enough to warrant me fixing the computer again.

Just wondering, what do you network managers do all day? I've set up a test machine using windows 2003 server but dont have the experience of managing a large amount of users . What does your job involve? What common tasks are you asked to do? It would be useful to know what you guys do so i can read up on it.

The HND can be converted into a degree with a further years study. That's something I might take up at the time.

Thanks for all your advice At every forum I frequent, theres alot of people who want to work in IT and have a degree but are unable to find a job. I dont want this to be me in 4 years time so I'm grabbing the opportunity with both hands. Hopefully I'll be a few step closer to my ferrari! However, as a contingency plan I keep all my options open. What are the requirements for getting a school technician job? Is a degree necessary for that kind of job?

I think I will take the job & I've sorted out with the employer that I'd be able to do the HND on day release also. Being offered an IT manager's job at 18 is just to good to refuse.

Hey, Brilliant forum here, i've enjoyed reading the opinions of others about topics relevant to myself. Here's my situation. I'm currently studying my A-levels ( I had an ABC in I.T , Business + Electronics at AS-level ) and planning on what to do next year. I've had alot of spare time in sixth form so I have been working as a website administrator & general IT guy for quite a large company ( £50m turnover + growing quickly ). I've also had some work experience with a web design agency. A few weeks ago, the directors of the company were talking to me about what i was going to do after this year. They feel the company is lagging behind in the IT department - they have no real IT staff. The guy who deals with the IT also does the finances etc. They said there is an opportunity for me to take control of the IT for the company. Great? Job on a plate!! But, I'm worried about not having a degree and what would happen if the company sold out or something. I have researched into my local collage to see if they have any HE courses. I found a HND in I.T on a day release course for 3 years, i really like this option because I will be getting Education, Experience & Money all at once. There is also a CCNA course available which I would like to take. If I decided to take the university route, I'd lose my current IT job. I've contacted the university also to request a detailed description of the modules in the course and I found that the HND modules appealed to me more than the university ones did. Heres a few details on the HND: Sounds good to me. I dont want to stop learning after finishing my A-levels. I want to carry on with education even if i work. I would also like to eventually work on getting certificates and learning other skills. At the moment, I read up alot on web development using PHP SQL etc. Hopefully, I'd like to be a freelancer in my spare time someday. What would you guys do? Job + HND or degree?
