Smoke alarm hell

Hi all, I'm hoping one of you can help me with an xmas nightmare

 

I have some mains smoke alarms in my house, model Ei141 that are beeping every 40 seconds. First thought was of course battery backup which didn't work, so far I've tried.

 

1. Replaced batteries in both sensors with Duracell as that's what the book recommends as 'some' 9v batteries won't work.

2. Read the book and turned them off at the mains, removed battery, held reset button, replaced battery and turned back on.

 

 

They're still beeping every 40 seconds even when off at the mains with no battery in (err I know) but when I turn off the mains they show a red light so I'm definitely turning off the correct breaker. Can anyone suggest anything to save me from this noisey hell over xmas?

How old are the heads? some appear to need replacing after 10 years.

Seems loads of people have had issues with random beeps from these.

They beep with no power source? I think there still a power source there that you're going to need to find and possibly replace.

I'm trying to work out if there is another battery somewhere. The trip is off and the no power light comes on, then I pull out the batteries and there's still a beep. I'm wondering if there is a battery in the base somewhere. As they don't beep continuously its difficult to trace the exact source.

I had two Black and Decker ones that both started bleeping, even with new batteries. Bought a pair from Argos for £8. Sorted!

I've just discovered that the beeping was the carbon monoxide detector :-)

Oh well at least all my smoke detectors have new batteries, though they do still have an occasional flashing red light on but I'll investigate that in a bit.

The CO detector beeping isn't good news unless that has a low battery! My smoke alarms flash occasionally to show that they have a battery in them, as does the CO detector, so hopefully everything is working for you now!

CO beeping intermittently would be low battery if it was detecting CO I'm sure it'd do more than just beep every now and then

LOL indeed. We have a battery operated Smoke and CO alarm and when it goes off a strident female voice orders you about:

 

"WARNING! FIRE!"

 

or

 

"WARNING! CARBON MONOXIDE!"

 

She is very loud and aggressive XD I may nickname her Prudence
