Training for sysadmins?

Has anyone here had any training for administering Vista? Does anyone have any recommendations?

 

I'm asking because I've barely touched it yet. My few attempts at joining Vista machines to the school's domain haven't been entirely satisfactory.

 

I feel thet a decent training course might be the answer, or otherwise it's just another uphill learning curve I really don't have time for. I'm not looking forward to this!

 

Are the new MCPs for Vista (or whatever the equivalent of MCP is now) any good?

The key notes I have on Vista is make a complet set of new GPOs just for Vista Machines as its much easier controling Vista with Vista GPOs. When you join the first one to the domian ensure it doens't take any of your current GPOs at all and start from scratch again for them, this makes it a whole lot easier. Appart from that its just like XP really.

prob best to have a look at 70-620 ms exam. will be the equilivent of the xp 270.

I AGREE, use xp wherever you can, i have found some tablet laptops, only come with visturd installed, its just total rubbish. you cannot always get the drivers for xp on some laptops, so beware, or alternatively order them from ergo computing, who still ship with xp, but you get a vista key, should the ever sort out this mess of an operating system, and somebody actually finds someone who wants to/can use it.

I found that out. Vista creates a new roaming profile ending in .V2. I don't know how to handle that yet. There'll be more of these gotchas, I expect. It's little things like this will catch you out, and take loads of time to sort out.

At the moment My desktop runs Vista with its .V2 profile and my laptop which runs XP pro has it own profile. I then use folder redirection for the desktop and MY doc's. I didn't try redirection for the application data.

 

Also the Sync Center was another annoying thing to turn off. I had turned off offline files but the sync center still wanted to sync files so with no way of turning the sync center off using GP I had to do it manually.

Maybe we should have a thread for "This is how you done things XP, but this is the way it is done in Vista" or "Why you shouldn't move to vista" ;-)
