robjduk Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Morning all, Wonder if a few of you can perform the following test in SIMS for me please? Goto Focus Lesson Monitor Edit Marks Change group type to Year Group and search Select a year group (for the test, lets say year 11) Let me know how long it takes for the screen to appear Mine is about 17 seconds but we are running on an older 2008 server which is due to be upgraded in a few months when some other projects fall into line. I just want to see what the norm is. Thanks all
vikpaw Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Did you see the sims benchmarking thread a week or two ago? You can run those to compare.
Mark182 Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 From the moment I pressed year group and enter it was 4 seconds.
Edu-IT Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/126457-sims-server-performance-benchmarks.html
NewFormz Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Mine was about 7 seconds. That's running I a fairly decent Server 2008 R2 server.
robjduk Posted November 27, 2013 Author Posted November 27, 2013 thank you all and that other post was good reading. Seems we are faster in some areas and slow on reports but not unheard of. Roll on next year for my new servers then!
3s-gtech Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 15 seconds here, on a beasty VM. No complaints with general performance though.
vikpaw Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 5 seconds by the way, but that's a screen where you shouldn't really load that much data at once, it has a tendency to be slow, and you're holding all that data open for editing.
Ecclesbury Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 We upgraded our SIMS server over the summer. Not 100% sure of the spec, but it's server 2008, 64bit,12GB of RAM. Not sure about processors. I've just done your speed test and it took about 11 seconds. We have 190 students in Year 11.
PotNoodleTech Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 13 Seconds. Sims centralised onto LEA cluster so performance varies quite a lot through the day from fast to very slow, and writing back to the DB seems much slower. It was much faster when it was on one of my servers.
PotNoodleTech Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Apprently the LEA Upgraded the SIMS cluster on Sunday - I just re-ran the test and it did it in 6 seconds flat! That's promising!!
