marsdenprimary Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Hello, I've experienced this before but can't remember why it happens. We have a laptop here in school and the audio is terrible through the speaker system. Plug it into the amp and the volume is very low but when you turn it up you can hear the sound of what sounds like a Spectrum 48K loading a game! Every time you move the mouse- it makes a zzzrzrzrz sound. If you jiggle the jack output it can get a little louder but still awful. Any ideas?! The laptop is a Toshiba.

marsdenprimary Posted November 26, 2013 Author Posted November 26, 2013 Another thing that happens is when you unplug the power from the laptop it just buzzes very loudly as though the audio jack is faulty...but when the power is plugged in no buzzing but we have the computer interference noise...

We find it happens a lot when lengths of cable are long, or it's near other things that intefere with the signals. They are fairly cheap to get, and make a lot of difference we find. But it's only a guess with yours Steve 1

We're also getting this, although it disappears when the power is unplugged from the laptop (as suggested above). Worst offenders seem to be Samsung laptops, but also some noise when using HP and Toshiba.

In the end I swapped the amp that the laptop was going into and it sorted the problem out so I never had an opportunity to test a ground loop isolator.

I don't know what the other thing might be, and I'm not going to speculate in polite company. Take a look at Ground Loop Isolator 3.5mm variety. This is indeed what you need. A very common problem with laptops & PSUs. You can't predict which will work! This is what you need!
