Wireless network wanted

Anyone able to recommend a decent networking firm in the north of England. Looking for Quotes on a Wireless network for a small secondary school. very small only 24 class rooms and a few offices and specialist suites. were a school for kids with severe learning difficulties etc.

I have just installed 8 AP in one of the schools I look after and it was all easy enough. The 8 AP is more than enough for our small Primary school.

Hey Matt. What sort of setup do you have in that school in terms of number of classrooms/mobile devices? I am looking at updating our current wifi setup and have heard lots of recommendations for Unifi.

We had some remote AP planning done when we got quotes from Rukus and Aerohive etc. We sent them a floor plan and they came back with the suggested positions.

The school is a smallish primary in kind of a square with an annex for the nursery. We have about 14 class rooms and an ICT Suite.

The main aim was to have wifi so the teachers could use fingertips and the Ipads, we have 16 but they are planning more. To be honest we havent hammered the wifi and I dont think we will for a long time to come. each AP I think can take at least 30 users( dont quote me on that) but have heard of 100 users on one AP that worked.

 

We ordered 9 AP, I have a spare in the cupboard.... and to be honest I think we could have gone with less.

The only thing to be careful with is the PoE as the ones we have need a special switch or to be plugged in at the mains. ( we bought the unifi toughswitch) All in all would have took me about 1 day if that to do the AP install. It was the cabling and trunking that took up the time.

 

Best Idea is to order 3 AP's and test them think it was about £199 or so, If you think that a ruckus solution is going to cost £5000 at the least then £200 to test them isnt that bad. And you may find like us that they will do the job.

 

I managed to renew our switched and wi fi the school for less then 1/4 of a other wifi quote.

Hi @bencole we're a supplier and installer of Ruckus Wireless and have handled hundreds of installs all over the country. We're currently the largest Ruckus reseller in Europe, Middle East and Africa, so we like to think we know what we're doing

 

At the moment Ruckus are running a special education wireless bundles, for example in one bundle you can get an 1112 ZoneDirector, this is a controller than can handle up to 12 APs and is scalable, you also get 6 x 7372 access points that are new to the market all covered under 5 years support for £2,694.
