NAS Backup

So, I have a NAS at home with around 7TB of data, if I was to loose this then I would be well... Devastated to say the least.

 

I am looking into a way to back this up, the NAS has a built in Plugin for Amazon S3, which is good, but the amount of PUT requests etc well the bill would be huge.

 

So I am wondering if anyone knows of any other software that could send the NAS to an FTP site? I have a hosting package with GoDaddy, that has unlimited space. After a chat with them today 7TB is fine for me to dump up onto that site so heck why not.

 

I would be looking at an application I could maybe install on a PC and each day it looks at what files have changed and then sends them off, not sure about just a sync, as if I delete something than that would get replicated as well onto the FTP site, so it would need to be a backup solution.

 

Anyway any thoughts would be very welcome.

Im sure FileZilla can do this.

Filezilla is just an FTP client, it needs instructions form a user, which means it can't be automated, and also wouldn't preserve any file history / version of files.

I've not tried it but this sounds like it fits the bill:

7TB on FTP! I am suprised they allowed you to dump 7TB, most companies say "Unlimited" space but have a Fair Usage Policy.

 

FileZilla should do the trick, leave it on a Monday... come back the following Monday and it might be done xD

If I was to dump 10000 of files then this would violate the TOS but if it was a backup program that took them all and did one big image dump then that would be fine. I am looking at Amazon Glacier backup system at the moment.

 

Works out at about $8 per 1TB of data, so guess when the server expands to its max (60TB) that will be whack to pay each month, but I think I am along way from that :-)
