AQA E-Science on CC4

Has anyone had any luck with this software? We have an ancient version of E-Science on a network drive (v1.1) and teachers run it directly from the drive. It doesn't seem to work on some machines though and is intermittent (does not seem to be related to Java version). I have tried packaging it and it just seems to crash the package builder. Has anyone had any luck deploying this software without it being awful? I have both 1.1 and 2.0 iso's now and licenses for Chemistry and Physics.

 

Any help appreciated.

Try it on a mapped drive, have you tried adding it to RMPublic? Is it an executable, if so have you added a software restriction policy for it?

We had such fun with this back are old CC3 network, had their support engineers doing lots of things to try and get it reliably working on a few machines. They gave up after about 2 weeks work and said we will give you £500 quid off the new one when it comes out.

 

Guess what, it never came out !!

 

From what i remember it was very fussy on what version of java and flash was installed on a machine, it also needed a really old 16bit flash installed for a couple of bits to pick up the fact that it had it then pass it on to a more sensible version. Staff could, however, running them from a usb hard drive they had borrow from their last school (that i put a stop to)

We currently run it from a network drive, it's just on the share and the teachers get a shortcut to run it. It has software restriction policies in place for both the JustClick.exe and the path. The reason that I came to look into this is because it seems to work on some machines and not on others. I have tried messing with the Java version but it isn't have an effect. Two machines, both logged on as administrators, both with the same version of Java and Flash, one freezes at the intro and the other runs fine.

 

Not sure what to try next.

is the shortcut a UNC or mapped drive Path?

 

Sometimes programs have trouble understanding UNC paths etc. Maybe be worth testing both shortcuts? Also does it need Adobe AIR?

I got in touch with Nelson Thornes and they upgraded our version of E-science to version 2 for free. It might be worth getting in touch with them.

I've got Version 2.0 but it has the same problems that 1.1 has, the same machines still won't run it. I am pretty sure it has something to do with Flash/Java at this point since it does work on some machines.

It's a mapped drive path and it doesn't require Air. As mentioned in my other post I am pretty sure it must be something to do with the dependencies because some machines work and not others.

Have you deployed the registry key that the clients require? Should be in the root of the folder called 32bitworkstation.reg

Also Wavecontrol.dll needs to be registered on the client machines. We did this through Impero.
