Joomla 3 fresh install fails at configuraton page

Hi All,

 

 

Trying to install Joomla 3 on server 2008 R2 with IIS7 and the latest PHP installed.

 

 

I open the Joomla installation index.php and fill out the information, click next and it just appears to crash.

It hangs on the loading graphic forever. You can see the next part of the form under the loading graphic(its slightly greyed out) If you fill the form out and press next it says "Process is in Progress. Please Wait..."

 

 

This will not go any further, Anyone any ideas?

Does your web user have permissions to write the necessary files? Often it's necessary to lock the permissions down after installation - maybe your wwwuser only has read access?

Chuck out IIS and use Apache, and it might well work. A couple of days ago, I was trying to install a package into our Joomla and it failed with a "Cannot create symbolic link" error. The server was running IIS8. Now a few months ago, I was getting 500 server errors, but IIS wasn't telling me what the problem was, so I slapped Apache on the box and Apache told me exactly what the problem was and I was able to fix it. Anyway, with this package, I stopped IIS and fired off Apache, hoping to see a more sensible error message, and the package installed just fine. I think we'll just going to stick with Apache, even though the boss wanted IIS.

Come back after the weekend and now it wont even open the index page to set it up it just keeps attempting to do a file download then pops up the same file download button??? tried deleting all the joomla install files and have coppied them back in but the fault still remains.

It sounds as if PHP is not running correctly. Try reinstalling it from the Web App Gallery. The check your MIME types in IIS.

Reinstalled already no change. what's MIME types??

 

Looking at the PHP.ini to see if I can set some better debug information.

I had the problem where I filled out the boxes pressed next and it did not appear to do anything. I enabled cookies and it worked fine. This was on a remote linux host though host

Can you set up a Linux VM with LAMP to test the install? I've never stuck Joomla on IIS - I know it works perfectly well but there is less info about it as it's a less common configuration. Alternatively, have you looked at Microsoft Web Platform
