[netbook] Use?

Hi,

 

We have 3 netbooks that have been sitting in the box since we got them from Tesco vouchers three or four years ago. They have 512MB of RAM, 8GB SD card as the HDD.

 

But we have no use for them. What do you use netbooks for in your school?

They would be good in the classroom, but because they run off a SD card they're a bit slow.

Maybe use one as a diagnostics machine? Used to check ping, network speeds etc. when there's a problem. Nice and portable to carry around school.

 

Could aslo be used for RDPing when onsite in a class room.

For special needs students/interventions either on the network or set up to run as stand-alones?

We have a number of Netbooks that we have allocated to individual students with special educational needs.

 

We have elected to use the nebooks this way because we have made them members of the domain and so they behave like laptops [Logon, Group Policy etc] but they are significantly lighter than laptops [An important consideration when some students who use them keep them all day] They connect to our wireless network [No plugging/un-plugging of Ethernet cables required]

 

They are returned to us when they require charging and also at the end of each day.

The ones we have we connect on boot to our RDP server - works well.

We have one that we use as a stocktake netbook - it has the barcode reader attached to it so we can wander around with it doing the annual stock check. Our colleague who does the PAT testing has another one on a trolley with his PAT gear attached.
