Youtube for schools not working now?

Is anyone else having issues with Youtube for Schools? Specifically, it is ignoring that someone is logged in?

 

We have it set up with URL insertion here which adds our "edufilter=" bit to the URL.

If a teacher logs in, they get the right page, it shows them logged in. However, if they then try to use a video it then thinks they're not logged in.

 

Anyone got any thoughts how to solve this?

Could it be to do with the recent shakeup of how youtube works? With the google+ integration and video URLS etc.

Argh not this again.

We have had this intermittently for a while now. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Sometimes you get a page saying something along the lines of "Oops we couldn't sign you in" or something. Getting to be a PITA.

I've been having an issue, but as soon as that was added into our filter, it worked again.

Sadly, this hasn't helped. I've unblocked googlevideo.com and video.google.com. Still the same problem.

If you mean logged into youtube, edufilter should have stopped people logging in, except the YouTube education administrator account and any delegated accounts.

This is the normal behaviour.

Lightspeed have just sent out a maintainance advisory:

As well as the googlevideo.com URL they list what looks like a cookies-related URL, which could well be affecting cookie-based logins to YouTube. They also mention clearing the user's browser/cookie cache.

Google has recently made changes to how YouTube operates, requiring additional domains to be allowed in order to properly view Youtube videos. If these changes have affected your policies and your ability to view YouTube videos, follow the steps described below.

 

Follow these steps to update policies so they can operate with the new YouTube functionality:

1. Log into the Rocket appliance.

2. In the dashboard click Web Filter.

3. Under Policies click URL Patterns.

4. Click New List.

5. Enter a meaningful name.

6. Optional. Enter a description.

7. Enter the following URLs:

googlevideo.com/crossdomain.xml

googlevideo.com/videoplayback

youtube-nocookie.com


8. Click Save.

9. Under Policies click Policy Management.

10. Click Rule Sets.

11. Perform Steps a through e on every rule set where you have allowed YouTube and every rule set where you have blocked YouTube but allowed YouTube.edu.

a. Click the rule set you want to update.

b. Scroll down to URL Patterns.

c. Check (select) the URL pattern you created above.

d. Select Allow from the dropdown list.

e. Click Save.

In some cases, it may be necessary for end users to clear their cache for these changes to take effect.

Can someone try ipads/tablets in a browser (i'm aware the youtube app does not work.

It appears flash is forced for youtube for schools.

 

Anybody had any similar issues. When turning on html5 for youtube it still uses flash. You can only turn on html5 when going through a different proxy or a direct internet connection.
