[ipad] Reflector/AirServer won't display on school wireless network

Hi,

 

I've just had a teacher come in and ask why Reflector/AirServer won't work on the school network. Having not had a dabble with this myself I had a look but couldn't see why this wasn't working as expected as there was no indication what was causing this not to work.

 

• This works fine at home so all protocols are present and working as expected
  
• No VLANs or separate subnets setup on the network
  
• We're running a Ruckus Wireless setup
  
• Firewall service has been disabled and laptop rebooted for testing purposes.
  

 

The AirPlay icon appears on the iPad so it is connecting but when enabling "Mirroring" nothing happens and the iPad runs extremely jerky/sluggish until this is disabled.

 

Any ideas?

Right check these things

latest version of reflector, one was released on Friday, this solved the jerkyness issue i had today.

On preferences, when you update you can now choose which which format. you need to choose 'iPad'

are you on i0s 7

The latest version is installed. As mentioned, this is happening with both Reflector and AirServer and works fine at home in its current state so am pretty sure this is something related to the school wireless system.

 

Just to be clear there is no mirroring actually happening but when enabled, the iPad becomes extremely jerky.

 

Again when at home all works fine so the format selected must be correct within preferences.

You don't happen to have an iOS 6 device around to test do you?

There are issues with iOS 7 and mirroring at the moment, I know it works at home an' all but I reckon its worth testing a known working OS to rule out the iOS 7 issues.

 

Not exactly your problem but Airserver have something to say about iOS 7: AirServer - Support

With ruckus you don't have client isolation turned on do you? It's on as default with guest SSIDs Edited November 5, 2013 by bladedanny

No client isolation turned on in this instance but nice idea!!

After all that it turns out the iPad simply needed a reboot......"It won't be that" I said to myself...Pffft

Well, the fix for the iOS 7 mirror bug is to restart it. Perhaps I should have made that clear earlier... :S
