HP G70 laptop running at 87 degrees ??

Just working on a laptop, notices a shed load of smart errors on the HD, so I've replaced it - fresh install of win 7 ect.

 

I've installed Open hardware monitor and I've noticed the CPU is running at 86/87 degrees under normal load...(just installing windows updates).

 

Am I crazy Or is this simply too high. Does anyone have any suggestions? (I've already used some air to remove some dust build up.)

Yea I def get that checked either cpu is from a bad batch or the heat sink has been installed incorrectly or bad design position or the fan sensor is faulty

 

How does the cpu fan sound is it constant?

There have been many complaints made regarding this model.

One of the most common is the loss of display.

The Fan/Heatsink has to cool both the CPU and GPU, the area gets so hot the GPU starts to desolder itself.

Some repairers use a shim to try and improve the heat transfer between GPU and heat sink but it needs a proper SMD rework to do a proper job.

Once the fan starts to slow down or the exhaust area gets blocked these issues rapidly overheat and your in trouble.

 

HP did offer an extended warranty repair for a while because of the problem.

This repair is generally beyond most DIYers but if you have an SMD Rework station and a good or new cooler/Fan assy its possible.
