mrbios Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I used to have a piece of software that did this but i can't for the life of me remember what it's called... I want a some software that i can set to can the network for all PCs that are turned on and give me detailed information on CPU, ram and quantity, hard disk size (and make/type if possible) and so on. Can anyone recommend one? Ideally free but if it's cheap I'm not adverse to paying a bit for something decent that'll give me all the info i could ever need. Thanks EDIT: And no client software involved please, just want something that'll scan away quite happily from my desktop.

mrbios Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 Just giving spiceworks a go, just installed it and finding that everything is showing up as "en, naigation, community, title" rather than just saying "community" for example, what could be causing the messed up look? Tried IE and Chrome.

The program i used previously was very quick and simple, albeit it wasn't free and could only scan 15 PCs at a time i think unless it was purchased, any ideas which one i might be thinking of? It had a similar look to The Dude and ManagePC but it wasn't either of those either. EDIT: I should add that i don't even need to to show me what software is on the PCs, i need it purely for a hardware inventory only. EDIT2: Not lansweeper either, that's more expensive than what i was looking at i think. Though lansweeper does look quite good with its change tracking..... EDIT3: FOUND IT! although seems it's a lot more expensive than i remember http://www.komodolabs.com/products_overview.shtml think i'll look elsewhere then seeing as i only want something simple, maybe lansweeper might be a good bet in that case. The Freeware version does what you need it to, and a single line in your login script keeps it refreshed however, for all the toys you will have to pay £245 pa. Is it worth it? Try it and see. I use the Freeware version on several sites and it's really useful.

I have no scripts at all at the moment and id prefer to keep it that way It's not a requirement in the paid for version or during the trial, but if you want to use it beyond the trial period as the Freeware version then you need the script or batch file to run to keep the database refreshed or automatically pickup new machines/users.

PCquery is the name of the output from PSinfo. This runs from my desktop and you can create a bat for each lab/office.

dezt Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 We use lansweeper here, all the script is for is to trigger the scan, doesn't slow anything down on logon. I find it really good.
