Office 365 block xml files

I am at the end of my tether, I am going to join the circus as the person who sticks his head in the lions mouth, as I think it will be less stressful than working in a school and working with Office 365.

 

Right rant over, to problem.

 

Before the latest Office 365 update, I had xml files unblocked for attachments and everything was working fine. Since the update xml files are blocked again and i cannot unblock them I have gone through the process with powershell again and again, but still xml files are blocked. Has anyone else managed to sort this? Or is anyone else having this issue?

 

Also why for the love of all that is holy, do we have to go through a long process with powershell to unblock attachments. Wouldn't it be easier to just have a page within the admin login to manage this sort of thing.

 

Again rant over and I apologise for the rant, having a bad day.

Hi,

 

Can I just confirm you have run the following commands:

 

Get-OwaMailboxPolicy OwaMailboxPolicy-Default | select -ExpandProperty AllowedFileTypes

 

This will tell you then what is currently blocked:

 

and then you can add more to the allowed list by using the following powershell command:

 

Set-OwaMailboxPolicy OwaMailboxPolicy-Default -AllowedFileTypes '.xml'

 

Are you still experiencing issues?

 

The same file type may be defined in multiple lists. When that happens, here's the order of precedence:

 

• The Allow list overrides the Block list and the Force Save list.
  
• 
  
• The Block list overrides the Force Save list and is overridden by the Allow list.
  
• 
  
• The Force Save list is overridden by the Allow list and Block list

I just came across this problem and had run the command to add xml to the allow list (where it appears, but it also still appears in the block list) but the files are still being blocked in e-mails. Edited June 24, 2014 by Chrish5

I get our users to ZIP XML files here. An extra two clicks is no hardship.

Yeah that was my 1st solution but thought I'd try and 'improve' the system to not have the problem again. I've now removed xml from the Blocked list but still the files are being blocked in the web app.

Just ran this Set command and it removed all the other file types only leaving .xml!

 

The command that worked for me (adding the rest back in) was:

 

Set-OwaMailboxPolicy OwaMailboxPolicy-Default -AllowedFileTypes @{Add = ".xml"}

Yes; I am not sure if something changed since 2014 but it would of done. The command you have shown is the correct one as you are adding a value to an array

Just to clarify, do you need to also remove it from the blocked file types as well as adding it to the allowed file type?

 

And what about mime type? I'm assuming capita reports don't actually recognise as xml mime.
