CeX Need to sort out their pricing

The Xbox I blagged of Ebay a few days ago needs some games. In particular Minecraft. The kids want this more than anything, and I think so too.

So, we have a CeX a mere 7 mins walk from the EduGeek office and I though that getting a used copy would save me a couple of quid and I could get a Subway sandwich for lunch.

However a quick online check reveals this:

And it's only £13.49 to download on Xbox live as well. Now, I know that CeX have rents and other overheads, but I have noticed that of late their prices are becoming increasingly skewed. especially when you factor in that all of the stuff they sell is used.

So c'mon CeX, sort this out please. Christmas is coming and I wouldn't mind putting a few quid your way to get the kids a selection of games, but not at prices like that.

Well trading in, get CEX prices, and then go to a store that price beats, simply for the fact that they offer usually the best prices, and then stores like Game or Cash Generator will beat them by £1. Might not sound like much, but I traded in 30 odd games, CEX prices were better than game, but game beat them by £1 and I ended up £27 better off on my trade in value, and it is going to BF4

I've found CEX are getting more and more expensive lately, stopped going there now unless I want to sell games rather than trade.

 

Started going to GAME instead.. the pricing's starting to get fairly close to CEX's, get alright amounts for trade ins with their price match and reward points for a little money off every now and then is always nice.

Plus you're not standing in a queue for 2 hours behind 4 people with suitcases full of CDs/DVDs worth maybe £100 between them all.

Daughter traded in a load of old DS games, Game price matched to CEX (plus £1 as @nephilim said) and she ended up with an extra £30 on top of what they would have given her!

Cheapest I found is £13.49 off xbox live, I also want this game for my xbox but I keep delaying buying it. I think it's because it's one of those games where unless you know people who play it then it's not that good online. It's not like you can go into a game and play with a load of randoms who have it, you have to actually know people and have them on your friends list and I only know one or two that play it. For offline use it's a great game to kill a few hours but I am more one for gaming with others.

Not been there since Uni 4 years ago and obviously nothing has changed.

 

If you could find a time they had cash they offered good prices but the prices they sell stuff for is huge.

 

When they first opened they had phone numbers but apparently shut them cause of funding. They used to send out cheques that bounced too so I wouldnt use their website.

I find that every CEX rarely has cash to encourage store credit, so effectively money isn't walking out the door.

I used to find CeX prices reasonable but as you've noticed they're really soaring at the moment, they're only really useful for trading in/selling - and that's if they've got any cash to give!

*UPDATE*

 

I've just popped into the CeX here in preston during my lunch and they have put the prices of a used copy of Minecraft up!

 

It's now £28 whilst Amazon has put theirs down to £12.99.

 

CeX, you have something very, very wrong with your pricing!

CEX prices vary depending on demand and the quantity they have of an item, they don't order stock from a wholesaler they have to wait for random people off the street to bring in random items!

 

The other thing to remember is that with most shops you have to pay with money, in CEX you can 'pay' with an old mobile phone and a DVD for example and if you get a voucher for your stuff instead of cash they give you more to spend in store which is another reason prices may be higher.
