CyberNerd Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 @CyberNerd I can only apologise that you have received that information, it's not correct. If you pm me your school I can look into why this happened. Browser updates have no bearing on our filtering ability, and the solution is browser agnostic. The last iOS7 update meant that safari checks in before loading with a cloud service, and this fix was available immediately upon release of iOS7 Lightspeed also fully supports Chromebooks, and we have several Chromebooks only customer sites. Again, my apologies you received this incorrect information. Happy to answer any other questions anyone has around this here or via PM Simon Strange. your support system lists a defect which implies it isn't browser agnostic at all. TCF-4299 - Incompatibility with Opera, Chrome and Safari (webkit based) Browsers Hence advice to choose a different browser. Apologies about the chromebook thing, I must have got the wrong end of the stick with that. I'll give Lightspeed another go in 3yrs time when some of the bugs are ironed out. For now I am back with smoothwall.
Edu-IT Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 (edited) How did you view the defect? Is there a public system somewhere we can view? Actually Simon, what are the performance issues I've been told of when using Lightspeed as a Proxy server as opposed to inline? Edited December 10, 2013 by Edu-IT
CyberNerd Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 How did you view the defect? Is there a public system somewhere we can view? There engineer emailed us it with the note that there is no timescale for a fix. e I would like to re-iterate that Lightspeed is a really good product that would suit the majority of schools. It's only if you have some quite specific setups that relying on a client becomes an issue.
Watty08 Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Anyone have any companies they have purchased lightspeed from? I had a quote but it worked out more expensive than smoothwall. The comments on here suggest they have had it for less than smoothwall? Cheers Try Jigsaw 24.
Heebeejeebee Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 It isn't granular enough nor is it comprehensive enough to cover a school on the webfilter side. Firewall brilliant webfilter not. I fully concur with the above - brilliant firewall - rubbish as a UTM for schools. I'm sure it would be ok for a business. We're tied in for another 18 months or so with them but will be looking for alternatives very soon if they don't get to grips with their flaky client and poor interfaces (web interface is poor and doesn't have all the features of the full admin console and the admin console is clunky and difficult to use). On the plus side - it's bright red so looks good HBJB
